Need help hard wiring radar detector

Im working on hard wiring my radar detector into my car and my original plan was just to use the hot/ground that came into my rearview mirror for the reading/map lights.

Im still learning electrical, so bare with me please. Oh and just so you know, I have a 1993 v6 camaro, so some of the wiring maybe be different, I dont know.

There are 3 wires coming into the rear view. A black-hot, red-neutral, and white-ground correct?

So technically all I should need to do is splice the black and white wires and run them into my radar...?

Somebody also suggested just running a wire from my fuse box, but to be honest I dont really know how.

    Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

This car is dc volts. The colors that you desribe make me think you are thinking that they are ac volts. If I would guess, I would say that the red is the hot, black is the ground and the white is the switch leg. That is just my guess

Ok, I looked in my repair manual at it says that the black is ground, the white is a switch leg going to the door jam switch, dimmer switch. I show an orange for the main power coming in. So I would say in your case that the red is the hot, the black is the ground, the white don't worry about. If you have a chiltons manual it is page 6-71. Hope it helps.
