From what I understand, it's an option Alpine provides for just Apple iPods. But for me, that was okay since I already had an iPod. To me it seemed silly (marketing ploy?) that it won't work with other brands, but even more silly (rediculous?) that NO other radio brands even give you the option that the Alpine provides. Like I said earlier, there was no way I was going to go the way of FM modulator if I didn't have to.

AWESOME idea!!! Looks like something i would have torn into if mine!! Now I'll just need to convince my g/f to let me tear into her stock (Hyandai) hu/cd changer to do something similar. The fm modulator is definately less involved (well..maybe not really...just standardized) and i'm sure this sounds better--just like having an aux input on an aftermarket radio. Again--love the ideas i come across on this site! LS1.com:

i did this "mod" if yu want to call it. its pretty neat. what your doing is kinda bypassing the cd player's audio...you have to have a cd playing in the player to allow you to use a mp3 player. but still, no biggie. there is no static (if you get a good ground) but simple plug and play after you do it....it took me maybe 45 minutes to complete.
