Monsoon HU Replaced.
Finally finished installing Pioneer MVH-8200BT with the steering wheel adapter. In searching on this forum and the quote I got from Car Toys, I came across that the tweeters for the Firebird had to be wired up separatly to get to work. I found that to not be the case. My tweeters work fine with the HU and the wiring adapter from Crutchfield. While I was reading over the wiring instructions from the adaptor and looking at the plug in the dash, there are four sets of wires on the plug in the dash. This tells me (and I may still be wrong or not have an actual monsoon system) that the tweeters are powered by the amp and not the head unit. Anyone that has insight on this please speak up, it would help put my mind at ease a bit.
If this has already been covered and proved either way, let me know and where to find. Thanks.

The tweeters are powered by the hu. The 6.5 speakers are powered by the amp. As you found out all you have to do is wire it up like you dont have the monsoon. Every speaker works correct?

Yes, every speaker works. Just wanting to have a better understanding of the wiring when it comes time to replace the speakers, if I didn't go the Kee Audio route.

The big thing with the speakers is the impedance. The woofers are 2 ohm with the rears being dual voice coil 2 ohm. The tweeters are basic 4 ohm. If you replaced the speakers too the best option is just choose what you like and bypass the monsoon amp.

Thanks for the advice. Just to get it straight in my head: The tweeters are 4 ohms, the 6.5's in the doors are 2 ohms, the speakers in the panels are dual voice coil 2 ohms, and the 4" in the back are 4 ohms?

Yes. That is why most people replace everything.

I replaced some of mine - ended up swapping the whole system. The monsoon isn't really compatible with anything...
