    Ipod question

any idea which stock head units support the aux cd controler that will access an Ipod?

I was told that all 2k and later single CD units are capable and only a handful of 99's are

    thanx

Take the deck out look at the back, if it has the cd port then your set, get the adapter for your ipod or satilite radio and plug everything in.

Anyone know where to buy the part to hook up something external like an MP3 player through the AUX port?

My 99 single CD player has a 9 pin port in the back but from what I understand it will not run the CD changer as it was used for some other purpose.

I'm fairly new to the board here but when I went to the Crutchfield site, half the time the pages wouldn't load or when they did, it didn't appear to support using steering wheel controls on the Ipod. Is this the case? Simply does this adaptor allow only playing the Ipod through the stereo but you still have to change the tracks and such yourself? I've searched a few of the threads here but haven't seen one where the Monsoon steering wheel controls actually control the Ipod. Thank you.

i'm not sure how to answer you dude without more specifics....what yr/model do you have? what brand of iPod adapter are you talking about? (Crutchfield offers 4 different models that will work with my '99 Z28 with the Monsoon system).

Basically, they all work by plugging into the back of your head unit where you would plug in an accessory CD changer. Then you can control the iPod volume and track selection with your stock stereo head unit or steering wheel controls. Since it's a powered connection, the IPod will also charge when connected. Some iPod adapters let you have some more control over song selectio--you can set up 5 playlists on the ipod to mimic the 5 CDs you would have been be playing through the now-replaced CD changer (since the head unit is recognizing the iPod as a CD changer).

Kenwood head units will with and interface module you can buy a kenwood head and the interface for like 200 i had a kdc-328 and the interface in my 94 s-10 and loved it but it was kinda hard to control, pac audio makes an interface that will hook up to stock stereos with the right adapter and hook into the aux port but i haven't had any experience with it yet

Been investigating this myself for my 98 TA. This adapter:

    http://peripheralelectronics.com/web/ipod2car.asp

seem to work with models going back to 96 -- but only for units that had CD-changer attachments (not the ones where the CD player was in the had unit).

The adapter is available at lots of stores.

i have the Aux-Pod in my 02 SS. Works fine, just can't use the steering wheel controls on for track selection, have to use the 4 & 6 buttons on the head unit.

officially it works with the tape player head unit with CD changer controls built in -- and not the CD head unit like i have.

Hey ninety6 which Aux-Pod did you buy? Easy install or did you have someone do it?

SHARP! ! ! Except for that stock $1500+ price tag, but it's about 800 or so on ebay

    Currently own 1995 Z28 (Silver-Automatic) - BONE STOCK!!!
    Recently purchased 2001 Z28 (Black-6 Speed) - 3" Flowmasters and
other misc stuff. This, bad traction (2.21 60') and missed 3-4 shift
netted me 13.46 sec in the 1/4 mile. . .

Alpines do the best with Ipods as of right now... and as for factory add-ons, I would suggest checking out crutchfield.com and see what's available for your vehicle.

If you think that's great, try hard wiring it to your unit. You'll be amazed.
