illumination light on door panel
Does anybody know where i can get one of those small red lights that light up the control panel on your door? My passenger side went out and I have no idea where to look for one.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

If you take off the trim piece on the door release, you can then take off the bulb and match it up at an auto parts store that has a large mini-light selection. The bulb really isn't red, but a normal one with a red cap on it. I've replaced both of mine as well.
I've also had to replace the small lights for the steering wheel radio controls. These bulbs had to be unsoldered/resoldered to the small circuit board, and I found those lights at Radio Shack.

Sounds like a good idea! All i have around here is Checker and Autozone, but i haven't seen any light bulb selections from them everytime i walk in. But next time i'll ask and check. Thanks!

So, I fixed my passenger door light issue today. The bulb number was a 37, and it looks like a #74 would fit as well. One of them is a bit brighter than the other, but IDK which one. I put the 37 in, and it's all golden now. Remember that the power window control panel comes off first before the door release panel. Also, the bulb may be stuck in a bit, so you may need to use some force to pull the bulb out of its' socket. After you get the door release panel off, (1 phillips screw), twist the small socket that holds the light about 1/4 turn to remove it to access the bulb. I had to use some needle nose pliers to pull the bulb straight out, and of course it broke. But then I got the rest of it and now it's glowing red again.

I actually just got back from Checker auto parts, and had them order a set of number 37 bulbs for me Should be in tomorrow. Can't wait to put them in, I wonder how it'll look!
Thank you for that post actually, perfect timing! I don't think I would have known which bulb to get..or them either without your help.

It'll have that nice, red Pontiac glow again!

Mine are out too. Do the switch covers on the steering wheel just pop off?

Now get cracking LOL.
You're welcome G-P. Just be careful with the soldering.
Also, I had a '98 Trans Am, the steering wheel radio controls have indents for the volume button on the right side, and also the left button. AFAIK, that was the only year for that, so when I had myt '98 (AT car, and to get an M6!) I swapped those over. They didn't fit quite right, I had to do some small mod to the steering wheel, but I've never had any problems. I've always wondered why they did that, the '98 style has a much better tactile feel.Last edited by Too Fast; 02-07-2012 at 02:01 PM.

My driver side light in the door just went out too--but--- how do I remove the power window control panel first since it overlaps the side panel? I didn't want to force it off by prying if there is another way. It seems to be a loose/snap fit, but I want to know the proper way to remove it... obviously.
Thanks!

Check out that link provided in the first post. It'll give you some step by step on how to remove the panel (for the window motor install, but the first few steps will work for just removing the door control panel)
