Do you have a stock head unit or aftermarket head unit? What speakers do you have?
FYI - It is bass, not base.

Upgrading your speakers will have a very noticable difference.

always dirty- 2013 Ram 2014 Caddy ATS
A speaker upgrade would help. If you have the monsoon system run new speaker wire to bypass the amp. You will also have more choices for speakers.

You can run a aftermarket amplifier Memphis or Boston acoustics and running new wire also aftermarket head unit will make a big difference.

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
16 to you might be 30 to someone else's so that's all relative. Are you distoring your speakers @ 1/4 volume? 1/2? 3/4? full? volume?
If you're distorting at lower volume, you've got faulty wiring (i'm guessing a poor instal). If you're distorting at higher volume, you just want new speakers. You'll want 6.75" (aka, oversized 6.5") mid bass 2ohm drivers. A lot of people like the Elemenatal Designs e3.6, it's cheap and punchy. Crutchfield has a Kicker CompVT 08CVT654 and a JL Audio 6W3v3-4. (which you'll need to figure out proper wireing as they a 4Ohm)

Distorting at a high volume could also be the result of your CD player and not the speakers as well. Having excellent speakers with a shitty amplifier will do you no good.
Without an external amplifier, the best RMS wattage you are probably getting from your CD player is about 25-30 watts per channel with maybe a peak rating of 45 watts.
If you try cranking it up beyond the RMS level, it will sound like shit no matter what speaker you get.
