I am shopping for a radar detector
I am looking to spend around $ 200-250 for a radar detector. What kind do you own ? whats the range ? how much did you have to pay ? where did you buy it ?

i have the "expensive" cobra from wal-mart. $150. picks up cops about 2 miles away or so. there's one, i think it's a valentine, it shows what direction the radar is coming from.

valentine here. Very usefull on the highway. never gives false alarms. But like any radar i've seen - its nearly worthless in the city. But i am in chicago. Every damn thing sets it off in the city.

Has anyone tried this stuff? http://www.jammersstore.com/index.html
I've thought about trying them, but never got around to it with modding and all.

You kidding? First off, youre not going to save that much money. Secondly, who knows if its an updated version.
If you cant afford a Valentine now, then WAIT. I was an impatient little shit when it came to radar detectors and REFUSED to buy a valentine cuz of its price. I went through 1 cobra, 1 uniden, 2 Bels, and 1 escort.
Once you set it up (you can configure it to get rid of some signals) and get used to it, youll never go back. I seriosuly treat my Valentine like it IS my Valentine. The fucking arrows, the counter...OH!
Its so nice to know where the signal is coming from...
And about that counter...say you drive down an area and ALWAYS pick up a false signal coming from a bank..its a K band too. Well, normally it would say 1 and the signal's strength. This is where bum cocks...sorry, cops like to sit cuz people know its a false signal area. Well, on these nights the Valentine will pick up both signals and display the number 2. or 3, or 4...
The new escort might be able to do that, but the arrows are worth the extra $$ and I havent gotten a speeding ticket with it since I got it...(its been 3-4 years now) I did get tickets with the other detectors..99 T/A M6

the tornado...i'm about 100% sure that they tested it..i think it was in a mustang mag...i know i was getting my hair cut..and he's a mustang fanatic..he has a 69(maybe a mach...i'm not sure) a 200X mach, a 99 GT and a 72...but yea i remember reading about it and it deffinatly didn't work. i don't think it really even makes since tho does it....the fuel and air don't mix untill the chamber...so having a "tornado" effect in the intake really doesn't make any sense to me.

i have been using the beltronics victor 995 for a few days. really disappointed so far or i got a defective detector. i had a cop pass me running radar and i followed him. when he would just leave my site my radar would stop picking up. he was only maybe 1/2 mile away going around slight curves. how far should this detector pick up or any good detector around curves, straights, hills etc.....so far i am really disappointed. i am going to try another week if it dont get better its going back to circuit city

If the cop is running insant on radar it will only transmit a very weak signal until they hit the clock button and hit some with the radar. This is when they transmit the full power that can be picked up from far away. Also if you are following a cop you will get a weaker signal from behind them seeing they are focusing the radar in front of them and not behind.
