double din radios are not as wide as our factory 1.5 dins, therefore you will have a ton of space on the sides of your radio that you need to compensate for.

Here is a pic of the back......

heh, okay... Well, his looks pretty clean. I'm more of a DIY guy myself, so if I ever added an additional single DIN motorized touch screen VGA monitor, I'd probably do it myself...

but out of curiosity, would this kit allow for two single-din radios to be mounted? I know it's possible in most cars, but I don't know how the things would mount up...

It might be worth it if you own a spottless showcar that you have spared no expense on. But for a regular guy it is a bit expensive

    Hmmm...so, what happened?

I know this thread was from about a year ago. Did anyone end up making this double din faceplate for the camaro and/or trans am?

Robert I'm very interested in purchasing a double din dash bezel that has been trimmed and perfectly adjusted to the width of a double din radio as long as it stays the stock color. Please post the price up.

double din dash modification for camaro

Yes, it would be up to each individual to decide how much it is worth to have someone modify thier dash. For some, $200 dollars may be worth it. However, it is a piece of cake to modify your dash to fit whatever size head unit you would like to install and have it look factory made. I have done a few myself at no charge for friends vehicles.

Step 1. Get a simple plastic frame/bracket that fits around your head unit (like the one glued to the back of the modified dash in the above post). These can be found at any Wal-Mart, Target, or Bestbuy. They are cheap. Get one to fit a double din, or single din, or whatever size your head unit is.

Step 2. Remove your dash panel. And cut out an opening just large enough to fit your double din frame (This can be done with a dremel or rotary cutting tool purchased at any Wal-Mart or Harbor Freight--very inexpensive).

Step 3. Glue the double din frame into the opening of the dash panel with a strong epoxy (like the kind you can get at an automotive store).

Step 4. When the glue has dried, fill in any remaining spaces/openings with Bondo. When it has dried, sand it for a smooth factory look.

Step 5. Once the Bondo has dried, have a Lowes or Home Depot paint department match the color with their paint matching machine and have them mix a small can of paint.

Step 6. Paint the modified part, or the entire panel. Reinstall. Enjoy.

This can be done with any head unit or even an LCD panel if you are adding a car pc. It just takes a little bit of patience while waiting for the epoxy, Bondo, and paint to dry.

I added a double din head unit into my 2005 Cadillac Cts with out removing the original display or losing any of its computerized features. I am about to modify my 1999 Camaro dash. This should be a cake-walk compared to the Cadillac's dash. Hope this helps.

    Don't get ripped off!!!
