door speakers??

Ok this is a question that probably has been asked before but I gave up looking through old threads after a couple of hours. I bought my z about a year old in 99 and the door speakers where gone, I have seen picks of this speakers and I'm wondering if aftermarket speakers have to be specially designed to fit our cars or if the car originally came with a housing for the door speakers and the 6" factory speaker itself separates form the plastic housing, since I don't have the factory ones, I can not tell one way or the other, also anyone know where I can buy aftermarkets speakers to fit in the doors??
