I think whoever told you that, and what the above poster said is the same thing... They probably meant to say no more than 18" away from the mids...or whatever..

But the idea, as expressed in greater detail in the above post, is to keep the tweeter and midrange components as close as possible -- ideally simulating a point source. Of course the direction the tweeter plays in can still be altered though.

If you are really worried about screwing into the gas tank...just take some of the scratchy velcro, and put it on the bottom of the amp. It wont go anywhere after that.

Well, thanks VERY much for the input, unfortunately it's done, and I do not want to spend any more time getting rid of the tweeter pods and re-wiring the tweeters to install it by cutting anything out of the door panel.

I appreciate the information though, just wish someone told me this earlier.
    Oh well.

And I certainly believe what you are saying is correct, but at this time as far as I'm concerned my "untrained" ear cannot tell if there is any serious time difference as the stereo is ridiculously loud and clean, I have no problems being able to separate the treble from the mid-bass, so I'm quite content with how it sounds right now.

My objective was not to have an award-winning stereo system, as I believe that there are TONS of f-body owners out there whos car audio would blow my setup away like a dirty dish rag, I just wanted superior sound quality because I love to play my music loud and clear, and I feel that I have accomplished that objective in a big way.

I do appreciate the feedback though, should I decide that I want to upgrade I will certainly move my tweeters right next to the 6.5 subs...
Why settle for less, when the fix is free? But hey, if you like it...keep it. Its not my place to tell you what to do w/ your car, or how you like to listen to your stereo. The biggest problem is, there are so many car stereo shops (at least out here) that its hard to find a person who actually knows what they are talking about. An installer may have been installing for 10 years, but if they never had love for audio, then they can still give you wrong advice. Simply, dont believe one man's word, go w/ the educated majority...Crutchfield is actually not a bad source as well. Not the best, but definitely good if you dont know much about car audio. I would suggest them over C.C. or B.B., just because those places go through people like jimmy hats on a dirty whore.

Are you able to use your T-top rack with that sub in place? I have the same subthump box, but I can't manage to install it in such a way that both T-tops will fit in the rack perfectly - one of them would go and touch the sub if I let it down all the way.

The amp rack on the back wall is from subthump.com. The guy provides instructions when you order. You essentially screw a couple of pieces of wood to the back wall, and then screw the rack onto that.

on top of gas tank. before you freak out...there is a piece of fabric under the amp itself. use small screws. it will go through just enough to hold it securely. had mine there for almost a year, no probs.
