Ok, I was just looking on eBay for a Monsoon CD head unit to replace my '99
SS unit which has casette and is hooked to a Delco 12 disk changer.

Could I generlize and say that if I get any GM Monsoon head unit with CD that
is '00 and later, it should work with my 12 disk changer?

Also, are there any color differences in the various GM units or will any of them color match my '99 SS dash?

Yes, as long as it is a pontiac monsoon cd player from 00-02 with the EQ's on it, the unit will work with your changer. I am not sure about the camaro HU's Make sure the eBay seller can verify it's not from an earlier year. The only trim differences are between camaro and firebird models, which also have different eq settings on the front. The camaro units should also work if they are 00-02 but I am not positive

Just a little word of advice here...

Make sure the owner turns off the HU's TheftLock before you buy it.

Ok, so it sounds like I am good to go. Note that I have a Camaro SS and
    not a Pontiac.

    Thanks for the input.

Thanks for posting this bit of info and pictures. I'm getting ready to install a Monsoon into my Grand Prix so I can use the 12 disc changer. Now I know what to look for.

I finally installed the '01 Monsoon CD out of a TransAm in my Grand Prix. Sounds great! It was just plug-n-play. Connected the disc changer up to it and presto! It worked!
The only downside to this is I lost the radio/CD track info on my HUD (windshield display).

My question is concerning the PC board (or CD electronics) with the -A on it. Can it be easily removed from one CD HU and put in another one? I haven't removed the cover yet so I don't know how it is assembled in there.
If it easy to remove I would like to try to install it in my original CD unit so I could get my changer to work and have my HUD fully functional again.
    Would this work?

it's about as technical as working inside a computer, just dont loose the screws and hook everything else back up the way you took it apart and you'll be fine.

RU talking about the trunk mounted 12 disk caddy type
of changer? If so your source for these is at "Radios and
More" out of Fayetteville, NY. Phone 877-888-2225.
If I remember correctly, the proper cable is in the trunk
for this unit but I think that it also came with a cable.
I bought mine going on six years ago and it was $360
    at that time.

A tip, I bought the pickup truck version of this where
it could be mounted vertacilly on the rear wall of the
trunk on one side and put a Alpine mono amp on the
other side of the latch and a subwoofer where the
changer usually goes in that recessed area on the
drivers side. This works out great as you can still
store T tops (if you have them) in the factory location.

I find caddies a bit hard to find now for this unit. Best
Buy used to carry them but do not anymore. They
are available and can be found with a Froogle search
and sometimes on ebay. Pioneer part number:
    JD1212S.

I carry 7 caddies when I travel totaling 84 disks and
can drive north to south and back without hearing the
same disk twice. 3 caddies fit nicely in those mini
milk carton like racks available at the dollar stores.

Pioneer made the stock changer, but remember you only have the harness for it pre 2000 if your car came with the cd changer, all cars 2000 and on have the harness already back there

    Wink

I am positive that the two use the same connector.

    Two other things:

My car is a '99 SS Camaro and the cable was
factory installed in it. However, I ran the cable that came
with the player down the right side of the car as that is
where I wanted the unit and the factory cable was on the
    left and too short.

The other is that I gave you the wrong magazine number
for these units. The correct number is Pioneer JD-T1212.
Dono what the JD-1212S fits but I had bought two
of them on eBay and I now find though they look similar,
this one will not go into my unit.

The place that I gave you the number to has the correct
one at $40 +S&H. Yesterday, I ordered three of them
from another place on the Internet at $22 each +S&H.
