98 Trans Am Big Three Electrical Upgrade Due to Amplifier
Hey guys looking to do the big three on my cars electrical system because I have added 1100W of amps.
I got the easy one, added an additional ground from the battery to the chasis.
My questions are: where do I add an addition ground strap from the manual transmission to the engine. Please note I have not crawled uder the car yet, I'm just looking for some info before I begin.
Finally, how long of a replacement power cable do I need to run from the battery to the alternator? It looks to be a pretty long run, but I havent measured it yet. I was going to get a #4 battery lead premade from autozone, but might upgrade to #2 cable because my amp alone in #4 cable. I'm just thinking getting #2 may be hard to find and then I will need to make up all the connections at the battery and alternator.
Folks, any help would be great...I'm looking to start this this weekend...

There's usually a common connection to the block as well, but...
If your only running a total of 1100W, you should be fine with what you've done. Connecting the trans or motor isn't going to improve your sound quality or performance, I think it would actually back feed with the metal on metal moving parts before you saw an improvement. Thickening up the chassis common wire would lead you to the best results, but you said you already did that.
On the alt, if your not upgrading it, the current wire size if sufficient enough to supply the power it's designed to do. Putting a thicker wire on it won't make produce more amps. Unless you need think it's damaged, but either way I am unsure of the length.
