Smile 8 gauge power wire question???

I bought an 8 gauge power wire for a 1000 watt amp....will this wire be able to support it or should I buy 4 gauge?

For a 1000 watt amp I would run 4 gauge even if you are not pushing it.

Hate for it to draw a huge amount and burn the wire up.

Here is a chart for future reference.

As stated, 4 gage is recommended.

There are 1000w amps, then there are 1000w amps. What's the fuse rating of the amp you're using?

What they said plus you should always go for a wire that exceeds the max of the amp. 8 gage w/ a 1000W max should not be used with a 1000W amp for example. You want to be safe. And that rule does not apply to everything like fuses for example.
