WS6 vs 6.0 GTO
I raced an Auto 6.0 GTO today 1/8 mile race today. I won by about 1.5 cars.. Does that sound right?
He had air intake, and I have SLP lid. So our mods are the same.
I am 02 WS6 M6 -- He is LS2 6.0 GTO Automatic

id say transmission is the deciding factor. if u both had the same trannies itd be a driver's race, with u still having the edge.
so u being a manual, having less powertrain loss and having a ton of a better launch than him.... it souds about right

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
he probably spun like hell off the line. Those 6.0's are wicked fast.

yeah both street tires.
I spun off the line, but not too bad, I don't know if he spun or not.
He did have some heavy ass 18 inch bling bling chrome wheels.
He said his car feels kinda slugish thru 1st 1/2 of first gear, but really opens up after that. (Sounds like a typical auto transmission car)Last edited by jrc1122; 07-10-2007 at 04:02 PM. Reason: auto transmission, not manual

I'll be getting into this same race soon. A buddy of mine got a 05 GTO auto recently and he wants to run me. He put exhaust on it, but that's it so far.

Not bickering what so ever.
I simply wanted to know if the outcome was typical, or was it me being a stellar driver.
Facts: Race= 1/8 mile: I drive M6 02 WS6 w/ SLP air lid; He drives 6.0 GTO LS2 Automatic -- I won by about 2 car lengths. ( I just confirmed w/ my brother, a "car length is bumper to bumper. .meaning if his nose was at my rear bumper I had 1 length with that being said I had easily 2 car lengths on him.)
My question was -- was that the likely outcome. Or did I "outdrive" him.?
Seems like some people say the outcome sounds right, some say He had to be "an idiot" or burned his tires all thru first for me to win.
So which is it?
What does Motor Trend say,, their numbers are usually pretty fair I think?

I have always thought that MT numbers were optimistic. They use a correction factor. Have you ever read the corrections in HP Pontiac? They take one of the drivers best runs and then "correct" it to perfect weather and sea level. Amazing how much the numbers "improve":
2 examples:
13.89 @ 99.72 to "13.22 @ 104.77" ('01 Grand Am GT,supercharged)
11.73 @ 114.58 to "11.17 @ 120.38" (455 '69 Firebird)
I prefer to see what they actually do. I think 4.7 to 60 MPH is optimistic, to say the least, for the '05 GTO.
I would say you did a good drive on him, but he may have caught you by the end of a 1/4.
