Weighed My 05 GTO A4 Today!
My 05 goat has no spoiler (7 lbs.). It does have JBA headers (25 lbs. lighter than stock) and GHL catback (25 lbs. lighter than stock). Total weight savings should be 57 lbs. (7+25+25).
All internet references to the 04/05/06 GTO's were the same: 3725 lbs. But how can a M6 speed weigh the same as an A4 speed? It can't.
My goat weighed in at 3740 lbs. on a truck scale. If 57 lbs. in weight savings is accurate, then a stock 05 GTO A4 should weigh about 3800 lbs (3797). If an 05 GTO M6 is 100 lbs. lighter than an 05 GTO A4, then a stock 05 GTO M6 should weigh in at 3700 lbs.
I purchased a light-weight shaker hood today along with SLP's skid plate. I am hoping that this will save an extra 40 lbs. and bring my goat down to 3700 lbs. Although I am having JBA high-flow cat converters installed this week, I don't think there will be any weight savings to report.
For those interested, the shaker hood is made by Dominance MotorSports in AZ. I will have pictures taken after the shaker hood is installed if you are interested.
If anyone disagrees with my math or conclusions, please let me know. There is a 5 lb. round up or round down factor in the truck weight scale. If the weight is 3745, the weight scale prints out 3740. If it is 3746 lbs., it prints 3750 lbs.
The tune up should be next week. Those interested in my HP results please let me know. I am expecting 450 HP. If HP is 450 and weight is 3700 lbs., then power to weight ratio will be 8.22. Here is a short list of stock production cars with better p/w ratios than 8.22:
1. Shelby Mustang GT 500 Convertible: 8.08
2. Corvette (Not Z06): 7.95
3. Shelby Mustang GT 500 Coupe: 7.84
4. BMW M6: 7.82
5. Porshe 911 Turbo: 7.44
6. Corvette Z06: 6.20
7. Mercedes McLaren: 6.05

Did you take out the spare tire and jack? Get rid of the trailer hitch also. Those alone are damn near 50lbs or more....Rear seat delete.....nother 50lbs...How much gas did you have in it when you weighed it? Mine was right at a 1/4 of a tank.....

Thanks for replying Sarge. My goal was to find the curb weight for my goat. As a result, the gas tank was topped off and the spare tire and jack were in the trunk.
I will take your excellent advice and have the speed shop remove the trailer hitch when they install the SLP thermostat, JBA high-flow cat converters and SLP skid plate this Friday. Then I will reweight it.
My other goal was not to do any mods that could void the factory warranty such as putting in a cam, adding a supercharger or using nitrous. Having a factory warranty could be a good selling point if I decide to sell it in the future.
As for my short list of cars that have a lower power to weight ratio than 8.22, the Mercedes McLaren should not be included in the list because only millionaires can afford to buy it: $450,000.

Quicksilver Metallic- 2006 Pontiac GTO
On a CAT scale at a truck stop, I got a gross weight of 3,840 lbs with me in it. I weighed 154 lbs on a scale that was in the store where I got my ticket. And my DIC said that I've used up 15.88 gallons of fuel so I'm assuming that I had at least (18 gallon fuel tank less 15.88 gallons of fuel used equals) 2.12 lbs of gasoline left in my fuel tank. Assuming that the weight of each gallon of my gasoline was 6 lbs per gallon, I had 12.72 lbs of gasoline left in my fuel tank. To summarize,
3,840 lbs gross weight
(154 lbs) driver and driver's accessories weight
(12.72 lbs) remaining gasoline weight
------------
3,673.28 lbs total no-gasoline vehicle weight
108 lbs--add back 18 gallons x 6 lbs per gallon
------------
3,781.28 lbs total curb weight of a 2006 GTO with the M6 and 18" rims
Let's try to compare apples to apples as much as possible.
3,740 lbs--your curb weight
57 lbs--add back weight savings
12 lbs--let's assume you have the factory 18 inch rims
8 lbs--let's assume that the larger 18" tires weigh 2 lbs per tire.
------------
3,817 lbs total curb weight of a 2005 GTO with the A4 and 18" rims
The A4 is at least 35.72 lbs heavier than the M6--and not the assumed 100 lbs. To be more exact, I should have added the actual extra weight of the larger 18" tires and not their assumed extra weight, but I'm just too lazy to find that out.Last edited by damon_Z; 10-14-2006 at 03:32 AM.

Where are you getting the numbers for your wheel and tire weights? Especially the tires. The 18" tires should be lighter then the 17's. Not only are the 40 series compared to 45, they are also 235's compared to 245's.
According to Tire Rack, the BF Goodrich weighs 28lbs, and the Bridgestone weighs 26lbs.

The 17 inch wheels were 26 lbs each and 18 inch wheels were 29 lbs each. These were based on the weights members were getting at ls1gto.com. Like I said before, I just assumed the 18" tires to be heavier, but you corrected me there. So,
3,840 lbs gross weight
(154 lbs) driver and driver's accessories weight
(12.72 lbs) remaining gasoline weight
------------
3,673.28 lbs total no-gasoline vehicle weight
108 lbs--add back 18 gallons x 6 lbs per gallon
------------
3,781.28 lbs total curb weight of a 2006 GTO with the M6 and 18" rims
Let's try to compare apples to apples as much as possible.
3,740 lbs--your curb weight
57 lbs--add back weight savings
12 lbs--let's assume you have the factory 18 inch rims
(8 lbs)--the larger 18" tires weigh 2 lbs less per tire.
------------
3,809 lbs total curb weight of a 2005 GTO with the A4 and 18" rims.
It looks like the A4 with the 18" rims are 27.72 lbs heavier than the M6 with the 18" rims.

17 inch wheels ( stock) weighed in at 26.4 lbs
18 inch (stock) weighed in at 28.3 lbs
Local Pontiac dealer had two sets each from a couple of custom (dealer) installed wheel upgrades and I was curiousThis is my signature. It is mine. Nobody else has one like it.

Is there really a trailer hitch on ALL GTO's? I forgot to look last time I was home but I did'nt see it when I glanced under it when I had my exhaust was put on.

I would be very intersted in seeing pics of youre new shaker hood. And thanks for the weight info. I posted a thread a while back about my 04 Goat against a 07 S8 audi and i mentioned that the audi was about a 1000 lbs heavier than our Goats. The audi weighs in a around 4600 lbs and i was told by another member that our Goats weigh around that much and there was no way my stock ls1 m6 could walk away from that awd 450 hp V10 audi. Well now iam convinced that he was trying his hardest to keep up with me seeing that our cars only weigh about 3800 lbs hmm sometimes its best just to trust my gut feelings.
