predator or Hptuners if you have a laptop
hptuners is my choice, more advanced and can do more but it takes awhile to learn and is pretty complicated

I would say HP tuners. It may be more expensive for start up but it has way more flexibility to tune and change w/ your car and tune other cars as well.

thats true. well heres my first question about it, which would be the right way to go the standard model or the professional?

pro model lets you data log runs without a laptop hooked up and gives outputs for several extra tuning tools like a wideband o2.
Id go with the pro if your some day going to wild with your mods. If you plan on just doing mild mods you can get by with the standard, then if needed you could upgrade to the pro

Having gotten lazy in my old age and not wanting to sink a lot of $$$$ into my car I opted with the Predator and I'm quite happy with it. The best part of it for A4's is the reduction of torque mgt. There is another mod that us 04's can do and that is to grind down the throttle stop enough for the butterfly to open all of the way. You need either a dremel or similar or even a rough file will work.

I got tired of paying a tuner everytime I did a mod. Now I have HP Tuners and tuning is way fun. I even made enough money from tuning other people's cars that it paid for itself. I purchased the learn@home class and the book has step by step instructions on how to tune. Check it out.
