Transmission noise
Hello all I have got a problem with my 04 GTO with 18,400 miles on the clock. I have started to notice a sound when the car is in neutral. It sounds like a wirling sound and it is very faint. I can't notice it outside of the car. If I press the clutch pedal in it will fade away. I am hoping my extended warranty will cover the problem. From reading the fine print it will cover only lubricated parts and will not cover the clutch or throw out bearing. After doing some research online I am pretty sure it could be a bearing problem but which one? I don't think it is a throw out bearing because if it was I would be hearing a noise when I press the clutch pedal in. Has anyone of you had a simular problems? And what other bearing could it be? Or could it even be something else? I could really use your imput.

Don't worry it's just the throwout bearing taking a shit on you.
Yes you can let the warr. cover the clutch or you can use it as a sign from GOD that it's time to install a good aftermarket clutch.
Don't know what kind of mods you have or plan on doing but you might even be able to pay the difference and upgrade to like a Z06 clutch.
It really depends on if you know anyone at your dealership.Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

I just replaced the clutch on my car w/ 21K and the throwout bearing was trashed. While changing the clutch I went ahead and switched to an f-body slave cylinder with the throwout bearing attached. Needless to say the noise you describe is no longer there

Good luck with getting warranty coverage on a clutch. In my experience, most dealerships consider the clutch as a wear item not covered by warranty (including the throw out bearing). I've got an 04 with 23k on it, new clutch at 11k, now the clutch is acting funny (clutch pedal engagement and disengagement different several times a day), and the dealership won't look at it.
