    Tire size? Brand?

I have a set of Holden CV8-R 5 spoke 18"x8" (48mm offset) wheels coming from Australia.
I will be using the standard 235/40R18 up front. My question is...will a 275 be to large for the rear? Or should I stick with a 265/35R18 to be on the safe side?
I don't want to get into rolling the rear fenders. I'm looking for the old school look of wide meats on the rear/skinny up front.

What brand of tire do you guy's prefer?

    Thanks in advance!

i just recently purchased some new wheels for my 2000 z28. i went with the 18x8 in front and 18x9.5 in the rear. i was told by my tire distributor to run 245 45 in front and 275 40 in the rear. they told me that it wouldnt rub in the rear. and i could even do a 285 40.

the tires that i am thinking of putting on are the goodyear eagle gt, or the eagle f1

18X10.5 with 305/35/18's barely rub on a T/A stock in the rear. In fact they only rubbed when turning extremely sharp at a high speed... I think the camaro is the same. You are safe up to 285/40

you'll be lucky to fit 265's without rolling fenders and or drag bags...i have drag bags and the fenders are rolled and i can barely squeeze 275's in, gto's have way less space then the fbodys

265's max without rolling fender. If you have a stock suspension you will want to get drag bags or start thinking about new springs.

If you go all out and trim the inner fender completely you can fit a 295 back there. A local guy was running those and we were all dumbfounded lol

+1 I agree we have ALOT less wheelwell room than the f-bodies. I'm in the market for a 12" wheel and maybe a 335 for the back of mine, I'm running a full widebody. look around alittle, I remember seeing a good writeup on tire size in here awhile back( different manufacturers are actually different sizes)

Any fbody/non gto driver don't even chime in. The gto's suck when it comes to wider rim/tire combination without having to roll the fender. I had mine rolled for 40 dollars, harmless procedure and you can't even tell they are rolled unless you look under the well. I'm running 18x9.5 with 275's and have no problem with rub out back. I have drag bags as well. Looks like you might have to bite the bullet if you wanna put wider tires on.

how long has yours been rolled? I've read where people have had problems down the road with the paint cracking after getting them rolled. I would imagine that would depend on who did the work and their experience doing it.

    Does nitto make a 245 in 18's?

Yup. Nitto NT555 has a 245/40 and 245/45R18 according to their web site.

I will be running drag bags. But I think I'll stick with 265's for everyday driving. I might mount a set of 275 drag radials on 2 of the old 17" rims for occasional trips down the track.

BTW, just bought a '08 G8 for a DD. Picking it up Thursday.

So I was thinking of using the other 2 17" rims for snow tire duty this winter. I believe the GTO rims will fit a G8. But G8 rims won't fit a GTO. I will update the post when I try this out.

Figured Id bring this back up, since I have a related question and this thread has good info...

My question is.... Im looking at a new set of wheels/tires for the Goat for this summer; I dont drive that hard most of the time, and rarely hold a burnout for more than a second or two. I know, thats not a question, but keep reading....
Ive done some THOROUGH shopping and think I've finally decided on a set of Quantum Tek Qt110's in 18x8 with a set of Nitto Nt555 in 225 40R18 size. Am I going to notice a difference in traction/performance over the stock 17s with 245 45R17s? Also, since Im going with almost an inch less width, will I need a lot of adjustments to alignment? Thanks in advance for the help!

Cant comment on the traction, but your alignment may change a little if at all. Not a bad idea to get it checked though.

Well, since the 05/6 GTOs came with 235/40/18 I don't see any traction compromises. But I WOULD advise having an alignment check to keep your wallet full in the long run.

Indeed it is a package deal, one I found online. After searching a lot, I managed to find a pretty good price, so I'd like to stick with it. All the tires offered for the GTOs on 18x8's are 225s on most sites though.

Edit: Duhr, Im an idiot. Looking farther down the page it has 225 and 235 options. I think Ill choose the 235/40R18's instead of the 225's... Thanks for the help guys. BTW, what think you of my choice of rims for a PBM 2006 GTO?

I like 'em. Good luck on keeping those creases and corners clean though.
