White- 09 G8 GT
My hood scoops aren't functional.
I have an 04 that came with the 05-06 hood(pic) although whatever shop that did the hood before put the stock heat shield back on, completely blocking any airflow. Do the 05+ have holes cut in it, or do they not come with one at all? Should I rip it down or would that cause the paint to orange peel and wrinkle from heat....OR would that be negated by the extra air? hmmmm...

Hoodscoops arent functional on any GTO's, its just an aesthetics thing. I do suppose some sort of Ram Air system has been or could be developed though...
Anyone without a gun and a knife and a handkerchief and a chapstick get the F%$# out of here!

Phantom Black Metalic- 2005 GTO
The hood on the 05-06 have factory scoops in them and they have defusers (rubber gasket things to keep out rain) this does allow the air to pass through/ over the engine, that is all.there have been a few attemps to mate them(the scoops) with some sort of ram effect.Ive not seen any real cold air intakes for our cars, other then the new ones that go over the radiator like the TA and vettes have.

Aftermarket hoods have fully functional scoops. My Banshee is fully functional routing air over to the filter.

My woodward also routes air to the air box location...but the heat extractor probably does more good then anything.

Oh yeah I def know it didn't serve as any help for the intake lol sorry I think I was a bit misunderstood- I meant that I noticed air was able to flow freely through the hood scoops, yet the heat shield stops it. I saw in another thread (idk if it was here or ls1gto.com) but something about helping to cool the engine....would it be worth it to remove the heatshield or atleast cut holes? (For purposes of lowering underhood temps etc)

I think there was a CAI made to use the hood scoops. I can't remember if it was Volant or DMS. It was a dual-filter kit that kinda resembled an intake for a Dodge Viper.
extreme dimensions, driveshaft shop, harrop, hid(35watt/6k) lows, hurst, k&n, led fogs, maverick man, mishimoto, nitto, revshift, slp, stern st-1, smoked sidemarkers, whiteline poly radius rod bushings

I fabbedup and built my cai with 4" pvc drain pipe from homedepot and it works great and only cost around $35 in parts, glue and paint. I pickedup a 90°, 3 45°, a rubber coupler and a 2 foot strait piece. I cut a hole through the sheet metal where the factory air box sat and ran the tube through so the filter sits behind the drivers side fog light.

OTR
I've seen some OTR ( Over the Radiator ) Intakes that make the scoops functional with no rain problems. But they're mainly for the 04 Goats ( so your in luck if interested ). I think Gravanna carries one. I forgot the name of it. But the company that makes it doesn't have a good track record with customers. Plus, by the looks of it you could possibly make one yourself.
