    Loose steering

I'm having steering issues with my GTO as of lately. On gentle turns the steering gets almost nonexhistant for a split second causing me to have to over correct. It also does this over rough pavement or while braking. However turning the wheel side to side (as in moose maneuver) I can't feel any slack so it's periodical and not constant while turning but pretty consistant over rough pavement or while braking. Haven't gotten a chance to crawl up under the front to see if anything is loose yet but any ideas on where to check first or common problems related to these symptoms?

Just the usual check of the suspension components including bushings, tie rod ends and such. If that all appears ok, then make sure the rack is tight as well as the steering coupler. Could also be an alignment problem, tire issue or your struts could be wearing out. Check your pressures and inspect your tires for unusual wear. Bounce the car on the suspension over each wheel and see if you notice any real difference in how the car rebounds and settles.

Agree with Jeff. Give everything a good inpection. You should be able to pinpoint the problem.

Agree with Jeff. With our cars, it could be tie rods, bushings, the rack itself, who knows?
