Engine DOWN!!

This is a discussion on Engine DOWN!! within the GTO forums, part of the Vehicle Specific category; Driving home my engine started making a LOUD clicking sound...I turned it off..Now i try to turn it on and ...

    Engine DOWN!!

    Driving home my engine started making a LOUD clicking sound...I turned it off..Now i try to turn it on and the clicking starts and the engine wont START...Thats all the details now..Im taking it so it can get looked at..Hope its nothing big..Though it sounds big...DAMN......

    need much more detail...clicking ? like a dead battery or like a knocking

    I don,t think you did any damage to your engine [ I Hope], it sounds like the battery or alt quit, maybe the solenoid is clicking, lets hope so. Good luck

    Well I dont think its either the alt or battery...Cause it happen while i was driving..might be though..(i hope)...But the clicking sound very LOUD..And the car tries to turn on but just wont, and if i give it a lil gas it turns on....then right off..well i stopped messing with it until they come and check it..Damn...dont know what else to say..

    Will the car still turn on if something in the heads would be messed up...Like Lifters,springs, pushrods, or anything else??

    From what I understand the rocker arms are not adjustable unless you buy a different set, did you red line it? It could be all the above or a valve keeper let go. Hope nothing serious and it might run but not very well if at all. I don't think I would try to start it until you take of the valve covers off and take a look.

    sounds like a bent pushrod or busted valve spring to me.

    well the pushrods are compcams, and the springs were new also...And i was only going 25-30mph when it happen..not close to red-lining at all..

    yea i havent tried it anymore..and i wasnt even going fast..thats what is weird about it.

    I had a belt come off one time and it made a loud clicking noise and wouldn't stay going...Alt belt I think..Not sure if it busted or just fell off.

    With all the mods/issues you have been having lately.....you probably busted a valve spring/bent a valve/push rod......I am curious of your KR/A/F could be causing some detonation or lean conditions.

    what valve springs are they? From what you're describing it sounds like a valvetrain issue of some form. Keep in mind this is a description through the internet but that's what it sounds like to me.

    Yea...damn i know where im at its hard to find GOOD mechanics..no body works on these motors..ahhhh... what to do what to do...well im getting someone to look at it i think around 3 today..let see where that takes me..I think ill probly get rid of the cam, and go back to stocker..to many problems..I always thought it was my tune....but i already had to diffrent people tune it...so i dont know..im very depressed without my gto..

    my lifters tick. it sounds like a sewing machine when i start my car. after it warms up it still ticks. when its cold and i go to accelerate it gets very loud, so usualy i let it warm up for a couple minutes and then go.

    Yup. Hence the LS motors having the "sewing machine" nickname. I'm used to it. Hopefully the OP's goat is a minor problem.

    I have set,of 243 they have maybe 2000miles
    mods: custom built twins, built 408 w/l92 stock GM heads,GM matching intake,drag bags,frame ties,aluminum drive shaft, performabuilt 4l80e,Yank converter,ohios fastest and quickest 04-06 GTO 9.52 at 144mph. 1.50 60ft on stock rear end and shafts/suspension,on drag radials.
