and the outer diameter is just right to use a thick rubber band for a gasket if you are making a cold air intake tube out of 4" PVC

I'm not sure I'd want to attach something that rigid directly to the TB.

it actually works very nice. used a hard 90°, then goes into a rubber fernco fitting that gives plenty of flex before the rest of the tube. i
used a regular hose clamp to hold everything tight

I did. get the thin wall 4" drain pipe, not scheduel 40.
I used hard 90°, 2 45°, and a strait peice.....i cut a hole in the sheet metal uder where the old airbox sat.....fitted it all together and glued it so the new cone filter sits right behind the drivers fog light......then cut it after the 90° and put a rubber fernco fitting in to let it flex

$20 in parts from home depot+ a Specter filter from the auto parts store, and it works just as good as the $200 store bought piece.
also I'm an SD tune so I have no MAF to worry about

I was re-reading this, and was thinking I wanna do it but also get a bigger throttle body as well. I saw Speed Inc sells an 85 and a 90 mm, are these bolt-on to a stock intake manifold?

I know the 90mm's are 4 bolt and won't bolt up to an ls1 or ls6 mannifold, some of the 85mm's have both the 3 hole and the 4 hole pattern, but won't really give you any performace gains because the manny is still choked down to 78mm.
I hate to say it, but best bet is to save up for a fast
