How do you change the battery on one of our keys? Or can you?
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust, if it wasn't for fords our tools would rust

From what I have heard, ya can't change the battery. You have to buy a new key from either the dealer or eBay and you have to go through all sorts of reset sequences to setup the key for your car.

That blows. Any idea how long the battery lasts. Sometimes my car doesnt respond unless im really close to it and other times itll work from 60 yards away.

No clue as far as I know. I alternate between keys to keep from using up the batteries every once in a while. If you have two keys, alternate.

I'd imagine that if you hooked up an alternate power source to the key's main board, you could de-solder the battery and put a new one in. The trick would be keeping a continuous power flow so the key doesnt reset itself (if that is indeed what it does). Also, if the key battery dies before you switch it, it might defeat the whole process.

Just grab a key off eBay or something. Do any of the fancy remote fobs work with our cars? You'd still need the key to drive*, but at least you'd have another fob to control the doors...just a thought.

*Will a dead battery in a key prevent it from starting the car???
Anyone without a gun and a knife and a handkerchief and a chapstick get the F%$# out of here!
