No he is talking about the UOA's on the stuff reflect crap wear metal readings and shearing out of grade. It is all well documented (here on the forum)that RP is about as good as WalMart oil.

Are the NAPA ones crappy? I kinda just wanted to get it done, and they had coastal (which said dont even use in limited slip applications) lucas and mobil 1 which was up to almost 19 bucks a quart! should I have some amsoil shipped and change it out again?

use torco 75/140 with type f modifier... i ran amsoil for about 100 miles with their modifier and got tons of chatter along with other noises. From what Amsoil told me their modifier will not work in our cars

    That sounds strange?

I know Sarge has ran Amsoil 75W-140 Severe Gear in his GTO with NO added friction modifier additives. And he didn't report any chatter issues.

What Amsoil gear lube were you using?

Also, I don't know who would have told you the Amsoil Slip-Lock friction modifier does not work in your application. I haven't seen or heard any data of that sort.

Usually, if an issue with an OEM comes up, Amsoil comes out with a technical service bulletin and explains the issue and solution.

I couldn't find the AMSoil brand additive, but I used CRC True Gear additive and it worked fine for me.

I guess I should add I'm not bashing Amsoil. I run their stuff for all other applications and love their products. I just had a problem and when I contacted them and the guy I spoke to said they saw this problem before and with the style of posi unit in our cars I should stick to the GM stuff. I only went to the Torco because I have seen other people run it without issues and its costs half of what the Gm stuff costs. The number I called is 1(715) 339 8324 Amsoil tech services.

Any of you guys in cold climates change for winter? Or, use a different weight altogether? I've got 80w-140 lucas w/ trans-x...wondering if I should get something better (torco, amsoil etc) for the coming months..
