    Caliper piston falls out.....

In the 16 years of fucking around with brakes I have NEVER had this happen!! Yeah before I get any responses NO one hit the brake pedal or all four calipers would have blown the pistons out.

Left to go get rotors turned came back and the caliper piston was laying on the ground with a nice lake of brake fluid........

Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

Yeah just added a couple hours of BS to my complete brake job. I must say the dust boot was Very tight and more of a pain to get around the piston than normal. Usually I can walk the boot around with a feeler gauge this one was too tight to do that.

Anyways I just wanted to let you all know because I have NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN!!! So needless to say I will NEVER let the calipers hang piston down while servicing the brakes. I will tie the caliper up with the pistons facing up.

Hmm something to look out for I have to replace my parking brake shoes this week. One thing that shocked me was 70$ damn dollars for just the parking shoes!

Just curious how many miles do you have on the car you are replacing them on?
I have Never seen them wore enough to need replacing. Yeah I would definitely tie the caliper up with some safety wire or zip ties so the piston is facing upward.

That kinda shit, and things like the piston coming out slightly to far to get it back over the rotor is the reason I use a C clamp to hold it down while doing the brake job.

did you happen to have the resevoir cap off? that could have caused it. Other than that a really worn caliper or bad dust boot, but I wouldn't think its old enough to be like that.

I would be willing to bet it was just the fact that it was around 100* outside. No the cap wasn't off and no one had pushed the pedal. That car has under 20,000 miles on it and is a 06.

    Who knows I'll share a beer with those sons a bitches. . . . . . . . . . . .

I'm going to go through and bring some of the other Goat threads back that I think will be helpful.

Am I missing something. If it was found on the garage floor when you returned, what happened to the brake line??

Nothing happened to the brake line. It is clamped off with a pair of hose pliers behind the blue rag keeping anymore brake fluid from running out on the concrete. I took the banjo bolt out to have take a close look at the caliper seal and re-install the piston.

Then it definately was not caused by someone stepping on the brake. It must of have those spirits....
