I always do isopropyl for water, so I have that covered.

Be careful with the isopropyl, a little goes a long way. I know people that have done serious damage dumping just a little to much in. On another note I will be starting the TCW3 in both my daily driver and the Subaru.

Thanks. I only add it to a full tank. Gets done once the cold weather hits around November and then maybe one more time in February or so.

With ethanol do you still need alcohol?

Good question. Does the 10% ethanol in our gas have any impact on water? I have no idea -- searched and found this:

Ethanol does not always mix well with water in the tank. It does pretty well with most cold weather, but not so well when temperatures drop below 10 degrees. At temperatures below zero the actual amount of the ethanol in gasoline is not good enough to do the job. Just carry a bottle of isopropol (rubbing alcohol) in your trunk for those times. The commercially available gas line antifreeze is ethanol based. The government changed all their antifreeze
many years back now to straight isopropol alcohol. This is regular rubbing alcohol you can get at your local pharmacy in 16 ounce bottles for about fifty cents. Isopropol alcohol will mix much better with water at any temperature, and will even melt ice in fuel lines.

Well I know ethanol attracts moisture......and rust everything all to shit....my question is more along the lines of putting something in alcohol based versus an oxygen inhabiter. Know what I mean Vern?

    Vern?

Not exactly. I understand that "oxidation" is rust, but not sure about how an inhibitor would affect H2O in the gas tank, unless it is breaking apart the water molecule.

    Well...like StaBil....it is a oxygen inhibter....reducing/slowing the oxidation process....
to prevent ice/freezing I would use methenol......more effectice and less intursive IMHO. Like HEET....

Sarge, great info, thanks! Quick question: I run E85. I assume this will still be effective, if not more so due to the high ethanol content?

EDIT: So read this article and it appears that solubility is a main concern when using additives in E85. Do you know if the marine oil will be soluble in E85?

Many others (mainly up north of me) use TCW3 in E85.
My gut take is the E85 will clean all on its own. But the upper cylinder lubrication is the key advantage of the TCW3 add. Secondary positive is of course the fuel pump etc. being lubricated.

I have been using Amsoil HP Injector Tcw3, I will try Amsoil Interceptor with higher specification, JASO FC.

I went and looked at the Amsoil Interceptor just then and cannot find the spec's. Is it ashless? We use the TCW3 rated stuff for the catalytic convertors and the ashless aspects.

    Is low ash,

I found this discussion about jaso fc vs tcw3 very interesting, have a look
