    Alternator Install Question

I have had a squealing sound coming from my engine all winter (murphy's law). I changed both belts and all the pulleys and it is still squealing. The sound is coming from the drivers side wheel well, so I am guessing that it is the alternator bearing that is shot.

Any advice in replacing the alternator? I am guessing it's a difficult job as it is located at the bottom of the engine. I got the Power Bastards 180 amp alt. Just waiting to put it in this weekend.

If you Unbolt and move the p/s pump out of the way you should be able to get right to the altenator

Good idea. I will consult the shop manual and see what they say as well. Just wondering if anyone has changed their alternator. Given the location, I thought this would be a common failure for our cars. I guess I was wrong.

I jacked mine up and did it from the bottom, with wife's help. Not too difficult. Back bolt is a PITA, but other than that pretty straight forward. BE VERY CAREFUL once you get it loose, the electrical clip that goes to the harness has one, very weak wire, and will snap with any tension. Make sure you unclip it first. It's on the top of the alternator toward the back.
