1 hour install headers for LS2 GTO.

ya too all those who told me it was a breeze too install. your all friggin liars.

installed pacesetters on my dads GTO last thursday. had the manifolds out and ready to go back in with the headers within 20 minutes...
then shit started hitting the fan....hard>.<
i have been told that people did them in there garage on the floor within an hour. well i dont believe that lol. I-shaft is in the way. then the steering wrack is in the way. i am sure i went about this the hard way but i took the lines off lowered the wrack shoved everything into place had to lift the motor up a few inches too get the lines screwed back in and hope that the steering wheel did not get off centered. because my friend might have spun the wheel while it was disconnected. anyway i just had to rant too someone. and ask what the hell i did wrong for the next time i do this-.-

Well that's no fun... I've heard the Pacesetter stuff isn't made to the tightest tolerances, fyi.

I'm thinking of doing the shorty header install, your story has inspired me to look look this over carefully before ordering anything.

I've done a couple sets of these and once you know what to do they are pretty easy. I wouldn't say an hour but should be able to do them in a couple hours on a lift. Toughest part of the whole install is getting those lines back on the rack. Not hard but time consuming. The trick is to not bolt the header up when you stuff it up in there so you can work around it. Then it's just a matter of tightening the lines down. Much easier than f-body headers IMO because everything else is so much easier.

Orion has it dead on...now after pulling mine in and out a few times I could do it in around an hour (on jack stands with air tools)
The key is to pull the rack back, slide the header up in, bolt rack and lines back in, then bolt the header in

leaving the header unbolted and taking the motor mount bolts out and jacking the engine up a few inches made it possible for me. just took me about 45 minutes of scratching my head to figure it out. but next set i do should take half the time...i am ashamed to say it took 4 hours on a lift. but i got frustrated and had to have a beer and ponder.

    Lol that's very possible!

To the OP, don't worry the next time will go a lot quicker, plus it makes it a lot easier if you have someone to hand the header up to and hold it up while the rack gets bolted back in

a lot of good bungie cords were lost in this experience lol
and i had an x-pipe installed before the headers...which was stupid. forgot the cats had some pipe length on them so i had to run open headers for a night and take it too an exhaust shop to have the fix yet another fluck up of mine.
but i do plan on kicking some goat ass next time i work on it
which will hopefully be a mild cam!
