    04 GTO shifter

I installed a new clutch today and for some unknown reason thought it was best to pull the shifter to have clearance to get the tranny down and out, now I can get the rip to go back in right. The front part that actually sits in the linkage wont seat back in all the way and I have no idea why? Anyone got any advice?

Are you talking about the actual piece that goes into the trans? The triangular piece that bolts into the trans that actually shifts?

It was the triangle piece that bolts into the plate....Took the plate off and worked with it to seat it back in....It was like the plastic piece sprung while it was out? It was kinda bad that the shifter tied up more almost as much time as dropping the trans and installing a new clutch did. Oh well im gonna order a new shifter soon, have wanted one for awhile just should have had one ready to go when the tranny was out

Sounds like the nylon shifter cup might have fallen out. It's probably still in the trans under the linkage somewhere.
