y doesnt this guy post a video or tell us his mods, maybe then ppl will start believing. However i kinda agree with a few of u guys. If ur putiin close to 500 at the wheels and can barley hit mid 12's, its kinda sad, considering a bolt on ls1 will run just as fast if not faster. add a decent H/C and ull be running mid to low 11's all day long. I was also told that for the first 400 miles the s/c dont work. It gives time to break the motor in or something like that but i could be wrong. IMO id take a terminator any day over the gt500.

You can't "turn the blower off".

The GT500's main drawback is weight - at almost 4000 lbs, its pretty much a pig. Combine that with a not-to-big tire, and you're just not going to get really good ETs.

Start modding it, and all bets are off.

For their price and HP ratings, their performance is pathetic. But its not like they are slow....

    Curb weight:

    Coupe: 3920lbs
    Convertable: 4040lbs

Thats just ridiculous for a car of those proportions.

500HP from a 5.4L S/C V8 for $42K MSRP looks great until you realize its dragging around 2 tons of iron

Where the hell did all that weight come from?? I mean this car doesn't even have IRS, which would have explained the majority of it. Yet somehow it picked up 500lbs over the regular GT model...

ive always been all for the "anything can happen aspect involved in drag racing but the difference is too big. even if the ls1 owned the hole shot the gt500 has more than enough torque in second to pull away on him hard. it just doesnt seem logical to me.
but at the same time we should give him the benefit of the doubt bc we dont know his mods. hell, he could be pushing 470 to the wheels. and the appearance package adds another 30 horse....

    Iron block vice aluminum.
5.4 block vice 4.6 (taller, wider)
Blower, heat exchanger, and all accessories vice n/a
    T56 vice T3650
A number of other, smaller components that are no doubt upgraded (read: heavier) in order to handle the power.

I know they have all the extra components, but regardless, it still seems like an excessive amount of weight. The only things being added are the blower and the heat exchanger, everything else is just upgraded from the GT. Which should be a few pounds here and there. Its not like the GT's block, axle, any transmission are weightless. A 4,000lb Mustang is just ridiculous.

Its still a nice car, and its still relatively fast, but its just too damn heavy IMO.

yeah but its the 5.4 liter like the one in the ford gt. its a good bit of weight difference.

but yeah theyre pigs. why buy that when you could buy a regular c6 and beat the gt500 in almost every speed category......?

Good point. And there's not even a comparison in terms of handling.

Both are nice looking cars, but the C6 offers much more performance for the money.

I'd rather have the C6 Z51 for the money.

Ive seen GT500s going for as much as 70 grand because of the demand right now. You could buy a new Z06 for that much.

the more i read this the more pathetic i think mustangs are. I mean think, ford putta s/c on the cobra (which i have nothing against) just to compete with the camaro/firebird when they were already outta production. Now there claiming a "500hp rocket" that can barley click of mid 12's in stock trim. Modded is a differant story. Change that blower pulley to a shorter diamiter and ull gain about 30 horses. My friend did the same to his cobra and that fucking thing started SCREAMING

oh boy, i dont think it wise to open up this can of worms again....
it will be low 12s high 11s with drag radials easy, but in comparison to the terminator the new gt500 is one big disappointment with its chubby weight and its acceleration and quarter mile issues, and it is even more alarming when you consider it is infact supercharged running 8 pounds of boost through a 5.4 liter dohc engine.

but hey, atleast Ford had sense enough to keep the stang in production.
Oh GM, shall we count the ways.........
