There is more to ET than HP, young Jedi.

Traction, gearing, and aggressive driving can do wonders. For example....

    with ~315 RWHP @ ~3200 lbs raceweight.

This is an 11.59 pass with 355 RWHP @ 3340 lbs on DRs. Note lack of traction, but rather aggressive shifting.

Finally, this is an 11.43 with the same power and weight, still on DRs. Much better traction, though the air wasn't as good (Kansas City in June).

Good air, lots of traction (26x10 slicks) and gearing (combined with a 7000 rpm shift point) made the 11.60 possible at ~10.16 lbs/hp. Fair air, poor traction (BFG DRs), the same gearing, and better power-to-weight made the 11.59 possible at ~9.41 lbs/HP. With slicks on that pass, the car likely would have gone 11.3, or perhaps an 11.2. It spun really bad on the line, and also spun the tires on all 3 shifts.

With the power I *hope* to make, I should be around 8.3 lbs/hp. That *should* be enough to go 10.9s in good air. With luck, I can do it on M/T DRs.

    We'll see.

Good runs. My car dyno'd 313rwhp off the bottle and I usually spin my way to 12's (on BFG Dr's that is). From driving a few Mustangs in my day, I honestly believe they hook much better than F-bodies.

Been there, done that. Your friend is going to be VERY upset.
yup your right i know a guy that did the same thing to his stang just different year 93, and he made 295rwhp now hes at like over 600 to the rear wheels after spending $25,000 inengine modifications. Just nuts if you ask me.

i dont think this will be much of a race and this is why. 306s in notch backs are bad little bitches, and they are also extremely light. the 5.0 in the 94? eh..

knew a guy at my work who had dart heads and a very agressive fomoco cam possibly the b cam (help bob...) and a variety of other supporting mods such as longtube headers, x pipe, that weird dual plenum trick flow intake. off the bottle he made 302 to the rear wheels, which isnt bad, but isnt that good. and it just didnt have the torque imo. he thought he was cool spraying a 150 DRY shot while driving down the street "just so people know i can get sideways". glad you need nitrous to do that...

anyway, that was a 302 in a 95 vert (yes maybe not a great example but its all i had first hand).

speaking of the devil, i actually ran a 91 notch back with a very very mild cam (like under .477 on both sides mild) and some aftermarket heads. i had a fender on him from a 30 punch and eventually pulled away going into 3rd but he was very fast and pretty much owned my buddy who raced him a few minutes before me in his 2001 z28 a4.

guy was very cool and was suprised to hear that he was pulled by a stock ls1 6 speed without a muffler (cuz im cheap). i am confident he was running pretty low 13s on street tires and it really got up to speed!!!

so in conclusion maybe he will pull you a bit depending on what he makes but get some 4.10s in your ride and see what happens. the ls1 gets nasty, i wouldnt short change her...

just so you know if he had a fox body it would be a slaughter house...no offense.

Racing a 5.0 Mustang (especially a Fox-body) is like opening a box of chocolates....you just never know whats in there and what its going to taste like when you bite it.

Fox-body's are typically a couple hundred lbs lighter than the SN95 Mustangs, and thus are typically a bit quicker. It is actually pretty easy to get them below 3000 lbs (with average driver).

I'm not a big fan of Ford aftermarket cams.

$15k on a 4-valve mod motor is easy. But were talking fox-body.

Yeah it always seems like too much when you think right off the head, but when you really sit down and add it up, $20k is easy on just about any car when you have a professional shop do it. I know probably a dozen experienced 5-0 guys that will build you a hot and reliable foxbody right in there garage.

Some of us have the knowledge, while others don't. If they can afford to do it, then why not.

i will tell you what, you tear down a 4v mod motor and put it back together.
i have done this with several ls1 motors but the 4v mod motor is just crazy.
