An S351 will have no problem walking an 04 ZO6. 495 hp & 490 lb-ft will do that.

Think again Marc. I had a 99 Formula WS6 with H&C, but back when it had only a 224/224 TR cam in it (no heads at that point ~380 rwhp) - I would hang dead even with a local S351. Now....fast forward to my Z06 with the same rwhp (bolt ons only), and only 3100 pounds instead of 34 or 3500. Curb weight on the S351 is at least 36....I say the S351 gets definitively walked.

Its power to weight with the Z...

Power to weight is not really valid because it only takes into account peak numbers and not the power curve. A supercharged S351 traps around 120-122 mph and I have seen plenty of 02-04 ZO6s trapping 116-117 mph so it would come up a little short. With 490 lb-ft, traction was a nightmare as I understand.

    S351 Performance 1/4 Mile 12.7 secs @122.0 MPH 0-60 4.5 top speed: 172 lat. accel. 0.93g Pricing Base $55,990

It would be a great race but the Saleen would probably start to pull it on top end. The zo6 would OWN it in a road course.

A 2004 Z06 does 0-60 in 4 sec flat, and the 1/4 in 12.5 if ur a bad driver, not to mention the skidpad on a C5 Z06 is 0.99g's... so I say the Z06 would win easily

Although those are respectable numbers, I would recommend taking a peek at what GM High Tech was able to accomplish with a bone stock 2004 ZO6. That S351 would definitely be playing catch up, indeed.

and how many people own zo6s? How many times have they been down the track? A lot more than the s351. If we stick with the only comparable numbers we have about the s351, its the s351 by a land slide. Plus, using average HP output averages, the s351 has almost 100 more hp. They are underrated by the way.

There is no real way to compare the cars on the a 1/4 mile race. There are plenty of people trying to squeeze the most amount of track times out of a zo6 to prove what they can do. You dont have that option with the s351.

Hey, I have been reading GM High Tech for many years and I love that magazine. I just received the Feb -06 issue and you LS1 guys were kicking ass. I like the article on the sweet C6 ZO6 and that bad ass 87 GN running 9s on a stock 109 shortblock with pistons and 2 billet center caps. Talk about a cheap 9 second build.

I have constant fights with people into foreign cars about domestics and I tell them, GM has put out some inexpensive bad ass machines and no foreign company can match the power/dollars spent. How many foreign V6s with just pistons and caps can put a 3600 lb+ car in the 9s consistently without scattering it's brains? Anyway, that's my rant for the day. I can't wait to get home so I can read the magazine again.

Lets, just say, it would be a race worth watching between those 2 cars.

I don't see any real relevance there, as we can also ask ourselves, how many people own Lamborgini Diablo's.

Wait a second. We have credible information from a very reliable source... who were given the chance to try out GM's new (at the time) 2004 ZO6 (this isn't a brand spanking new article, and not everybody owned an 04 ZO6 at the time of it's publication).

Horsepower alone does not win races.

On the S351's part? I agree. Pure speculation on everybody's part, whereas the ZO6 is proven.

So I guess we can use your point of view and compare top drives in the zo6s compared to whatever the magazine's were using for the s351?

exactly, there are no credible times for the s351.

Horsepower alone does not win races.
we are trying to compare equal drives and it does in this case.

same thing I have been saying the whole time

    Top magazines do.
top magazine is an oxymoron in the Car market. Besides, there haven't been too many valuable articles on the s351 since it was made in 98. Problem is, people view the over priced s351 as a rare car. Most do not race it or beat on it hard.

But this is exactly my point though. Being that there really are no tried and true performance numbers, we can only speculate about it's actual performance...

Bone stock, the 2004 ZO6 pulled off an eleven second pass. Until I read about an S351 running just as fast (from a reputable source), I will continue siding with the Chevy (in reference to who will pull on who).
