    same here.

I've ran a Charger SRT8 70-140 a while back with top down and passenger too (I'm auto) and we slowly creeped away from him up top. I didn't think the Challenger was really any quicker than comparable Chargers.

Being a convertable had nothing to do with it. The difference in weight in my t-top 6 speed and my convertable automatic is only 70 lbs. Some of that could even be attributed to the transmission.
Hell that's the difference between a fat guy and a skinny guy driving,,,lol.
Not enough to even worry about. I would bet the SRT8 was heavier than you still anyway.

You aren't really sure what you were up against though. I've seen a couple of those SRT-8's breathed on at the track down in the 11's, and quite a few in the low 12's. So you never know what you are pulling up next to.
I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like you had fun and that's all that matters.

this is not good, i didnt know how my car should have faired against it.

i wanted to go from like a 1st or 2nd gear roll but it was a rushed race, so kinda sucked

maybe from a slower roll you would have taken him, but then again you was rolling on him then he hit the gas. now he may not have been stock either.
i know this all to well with a red g8 gxp that was whooping my butt on the road only to come to find out he was s/c with full exhust.

Being a covertible has EVerything to do with it. Back when I raced my bros 97 ss vs a friends z28 the ss would win with the t tops on but would lose with them off. every single time. The amount is drag is unbelieveable especially in an f-body with the roof down. That's why you lost.

T-tops cause alot more drag than vert. The vert down doesnt have a huge hatch to catch all the wind in just a back seat. Mainly vert just means more weight. Did the op even say if he had the top down or not?

Lol i did all the time. I had my t-tops off everytime it was nice and i was driving. Same with my supra, the targa top was off everyday it was nice and i was driving it. Alot of the time you just stumble upon races with no time to stop and put the tops on. I mean if it were a setup race for money or at the track yes the tops are on but on the street I enjoy the t-tops ALOT. When i would go to local cruising/racing spots and it was humid or nice at night the t-tops were off and i must have had hundreds of races in my t/a and supra at those local spots. I started riding my cbr this year at 40 Degree on clear days in january/feb. I love the open feeling. I figuered hell i snow mobile at -20 sometimes, might aswell gear up the same and ride my bike in 35-40 degree weather.

We never take the T-tops out of my wifes car, and I find it highly unlikely the track would let us run with them out anyway, so I have no direct comparison. But I agree having those out, letting air in at high speed with no where to go due to a closed hatch, should cause some drag.

A convertable however not so much. As I stated weight difference isn't enough to matter, and any drag caused with a top down isn't measurable enough to make enough difference in my eyes.
He lost by 3 car lengths and that was with a head start, you could probably say 4-5 car lengths would be more accurate. The top up or down isn't going to give you that much guys, I think you are splitting hairs here on a race where the LS1 was clearly out powered by the hemi.
They aren't all stock,,,so comparing other races people have had really isn't that accurate.

Wondering what could have or would have been done differently doesn't matter. He lost, it's over. Go gettem' next time, get busy on the car and add some more power. There is always something out there faster. Just be happy the man didn't catch you.

Oh yes, and in the back seat with the tops off you can very easily feel all the wind back there. At freeway speeds its like a small tornado in the back seat. And no i dont think you can run at the track with the tops off. And the top down will not make up for 4-5 cars, jones is right. You lost ot more powerful car, its ok we all have and if you havent, then you dont race alot and or you only race people you know are slow.
