Raced a WRX STi last night

I was getting on the freeway and the highway slopes steeply uphill into a pass in the hills at that point. I had a friend with me. As I pulled onto the highway there was a dark gray car coming on strong that pulled from the second from the right lane into the right lane that I was entering the freeway on. I nailed my Z28 and he came right up on my rear bumper acting the asshole. As we pulled up the slope I was able to hold him off and even opened a little space on him. He then pulled over two lanes and I got off the throttle because we were doing well over 100 at that point and there was traffic. He blew on up the hill. My buddy was stoked by the amount of power my Z28 had, but I was sort of pissed that I hadn't pulled harder on the STi. BTW, my Z28 is an A4/2.73 car.

I have an A4, 2.73 as well. I only mess w/ the STi badges. Any regular WRX just aint putting up much of a fight around me.

The A4 2.73's really put you at a disadvantage. Your extra 55 RWHP is offset by your tall gears, whereas he has 6 close ratios gears to keep the engine on the boil.

Get some 3.73's and a stall and destroy him next time

Exactly you managed to get a later start and still pull on him. If you were side by side and hit it at the same time you would have pulled him harder. I've always been told higher gears in A4 fbodies don't do as good on kickdowns.

    Nice run….that’s a good kill!

I’ve been trying to find one of these on the road to run, however I just haven’t ended up sitting next to one. That was, of course, until last Tuesday! I had a buddy in my car (who absolutely loves the STI’s) and we pulled up at a light right next to a relatively new black STI. Given that the windows were tinted and the car had a personalized tag that read “STI”, I figured I could get the guy to bite. I tossed a light rev at the light and I’m sure he had no trouble hearing it (however he did not acknowledge it at all). The light turned green and we both took the left turn slowly and smoothly and I stayed in first gear coming out of the turn in anticipation of getting a little action. I could hear he was taching up a little higher in first as well, so I got into it a little more and he didn’t follow suit and just fell back. I finally just stomped it, grabbed 2nd and was on my way. I was disappointed that the guy didn’t bite because the STI is a worthy adversary! Maybe next time!

if there was actual room to race i think it would have been better, i HATE having a ricer mess with me and then getting stuck in traffic so i cant kill him. haha.

as said above get better gears.

I've wanted to run one as well. Only time I've ever been next to one was out on a highway. The road was clear but they would not bite. I was disappointed.

Its true the reg WRXs are quick but I pulled one with almost no mods a while back and took him by at least 6 cars, but the STIs are fast and if you ever pull up to one at a light you better be on your game...I dont understand how they make little 4cyl that fast lol...Boost is all they got !!!

i believe you answered your own question.....

its called 15 psi and all wheel drive for the hole shot. but never fear anything as long as you have the ls1 under your hood and the t56 in your hand!!!!
