    Bought me a 2000 z28 a few weeks ago, 1st, ls1 car.. Heck, 1st muscle car I bought in 20 yrs (I've owned a couple of 13 sec cars in the 1980's)(early 90's)

Being on old mopar lover.. they got too expansive to fix up, buy rebuild..
I wanted a nice 5-10 yr old car, and researched what AMERICAM muscle would give me what I wanted, I like Mustangs, but have owned a few Chevys (still do)
and the 4th Gen F-body has a nice Sleek style.. and potential that hangs close to the Big blocks.
I admire the 4th gen Lt1 and Ls1 Camaros and Firebirds mostly.

    Thanks for the welcome

Totally incorrect. And Buick must be a cash cow now? Manufacturers pay to RECEIVE the results, they do not pay FOR the results in their favor. Please.

And "Yes", I've personally seen the Tundra frames rust, engine problems bigtime.. Tailgates falling off.. they can't handle a load of Dry hay.
And for every case there is another manufacturer with as many or more problems.

And the Legendary FAST powerful Supra... I've never been impressed with..
With the same boost, an LX1 engine will make more WAY more power and be more dependable than that 3.0 inline 6 Supra...the Buick GN of the mid to late 80's with a V6 could archive over 1000 hp easy, with enough boost.. There is no secret high tech that Japan only has here... but boy the Import worshipers would say different.
If you have vids of 220mph+ boosted LS1 or GN motors in the Texas mile, please post them. It was a great engine with excellent power potential and reliability.
an Ls1 can make as much or more power per ltr or cubic inch of both are built right and same boost...That includes R-34 Skyline or Supra engines
We all know there is no replacement for displacement. Its not rocket science.

There is a reason, for decades, Toyota has been known for their quality, worldwide. Their sales speak for themselves. And it sure isn't because of their styling or performance image. Funny thing about resale value too.

I wouldn't suggest comparing the 1980s and 1990s quality vs. GM. Even Toyota forklifts are the most popular worldwide for a reason.

Don't make excuses for Toyota. The new Tundra problems are well documented, the entire truck is basically a pile of garbage. There is no redeeming a vehicle built that poorly and with such inferior quality parts.

There's a difference between not doing something and not being able to do something. Obviously the team with the Supra invested the most money and therefore got the best times. You can't argue with physics, mod for mod pound for pound the larger engine will always be capable of making more power.

When and if someone wants to make an LSX or 3.8 faster than that Supra, it will happen. Don't be niave.

I would. There are hundreds of thousands of 80's and 90's GM and Ford trucks still on the road. Where are all the Toyotas?? Rusted away in junkyards, many with that gem of a motor known as the 3400 that easily makes the list as one of the most unreliable engines ever built.

We all should be like you, and put on rose colored sun glasses, and never see there is corruption in the world.. and money never talks either.

I'm sure if GM had Slave labor, they could do as well as toyota..

And for every case there is another manufacturer with as many or more problems.
Typical import loving who will make any EXCUSE for what is new or what they like... Imports are the new craze... just like in the 80's EVERYONE had to have a mini-van (still do somewhat), it was what was new, now it's Japanese cars..

15 yrs from now the Chinese will make cars to sell here, will almost be equal quality for 1/2 what you can get a Toyota or GM for.. what do you think people here will buy? ,and claim is better??

when people like something, they CLAIM it's better, the young guys working for the magazines are in this groups, should we expect them to boast GM or ford... like back in the Day when it was GM vs Ford, Vs Mopar... Everyone had a Opinion, including magazine test drivers.. usually GM got the better, because they were more loved... but in truth, they were no better than mopars or the others.
Since Toyota is the leading manufacturer of quality Asian cars, people ASSUME they also top US built cars..

I remember reading a actual add by toyota in the 1990's claimming

"out of production, in the past 10 years, there is more % of toyota trucks built, still on the road, than any other model, except Ford and GM."

Actual ADD.. look it up from 90's magazines.

pretty much means, there is more % of manufactured toyota trucks in the pasts 10 years in the junk yard, than % of Ford and GM trucks in the junk yard.. poor Dodge didn't do as well I guess!

If you have vids of 220mph+ boosted LS1 or GN motors in the Texas mile, please post them. It was a great engine with excellent power potential and reliability.
I can link you to videos or 2000 hp Street legal pump gas American muscle cars.
Only Japanese cars to put this kind of power out or Niromethane, stripped out race only non street cars. that need to be rebuilt after every run.
We have those here in America too, they are called nitro buring 8000 hp Hemi's.. pure American made!

We all know there is no replacement for displacement. Its not rocket science.
I will not be that nieve.
That depends, a 2.0 ltr 4 popper with 20 lbs of boost will make more power than a 5.7 ltr naturally aspired engine that is mindly built..
    But
Even a R34 engine or 3.0 Toyota Supra twin torubo engine, will not make more power per psi boost than an LS1.. both with good flowing heads etc
bear in mind, the pistons and rods in the ls1 would need to be replaced, as they are not made for forced induction from the factory like the turbo inlines.

resale value means absolutely NOTHING, even the Harley-Davidson of the 70's and 80's that rattled apart, still have better resale value than any Japanese bike. Does that mean they are made better ????????????????

I wouldn't suggest comparing the 1980s and 1990s quality vs. GM. Even Toyota forklifts are the most popular worldwide for a reason.
They are cheaper and less expensive.... more sales of Ford Escort world wide than Rolls Royce per year also... I guess that tells us the Escort is better quality..

Toyota has more money than GM, because of the unions sucking GM, Ford and Chrysler dry from benefits they can't get away from..
Toyota like most Japan companies, has people who will work overtime for free.. the employee claims they do it to honor the company.. We all know it because they will be fired if they don't... I call this slave labor... you call it what you want.

We have laws here in the USA to protect employee's (although they are not that good anymore).. How can the big 3 compete price wise?? they can't!! people here buy mainly on price.. that is why toyota, Nissan, honda, Mitsubishi have a foothold.. GM would have to sacrifice quality to come close to selling at the same price.. yet GM still manages to make some good products.

"Japanese engineering" .. I've heard this many times... like how they dominated Nascar Truck series... because they dumped millions of $$$ into the teams pockets to be 1st.. yet in Nascar Cup Series, they are not so dominate, Kyle bush is the only Toyota driver who has done well, Toyota has still yet to win Daytona, or a Cup championship.

Toyota Engendering div had been testing engines and chases in labs to tracks for years, to try and overtake the big 3 in nascar..
they was supost to be dominating from year one... they didn't win a single race ... untill
the 2d year Toyota gave Gibs racing div almost 1/2 $$ billion $$$
With "American" engendering, Gibs made the Toyota's run better, won some races, but still.. read this.. EL ZILCHO cup chamionships, EL-ZILCHO Daytona wins for toyota.. Dodge Chevy and Fore ko'ed Toyota at Daytona every year since Toyota has been there.. Toyota mabe came in 7th overall points last year... better than 22nd the 1st year

    That's Japanese engendering for ya!!

it's the amount you spend, plus the capabilities of the builders themselves. the glory shouldn't go to the car, it should go to the people who built it. i think all jomo knows is the texas mile, it's all he talks about like it is the deciding factor of all motorsports everywhere.

Exactly. Apparently the Texas mile is the new defining factor for a good car vs. a bad one though

Hey big hammer by your reasoning all the lsx engines running single digits shouldn't get any credit, just the builders. So you think the lsx isn't a good platform, that's what it sounds like.

sure the platform has something to do with iit, but it takes a good mind\talented builder to make it perform above and beyond everyone else.

the guys at the texas mile deserve tons of credit for what they pull off with a substandard car---

How about this ls based camaro running the quarter in under 7 seconds at over 200mph. Hmmm...I'm pretty sure that if this car was setup for the mile that it would absolutely demolish the supra to the point that it wouldn't even be funny.

I wish there was some Ls1 F body cars running against them. The Texas mile is not the standard of a good car or bad car just one the has good aerodynamics, stability, handling and power and a team that knows how to get the most of what they have. It is a standard of performance just like the quarter mile is a performance standard.

I'm comparing him to the 6 second camaro that went 205mph in the quarter...now that's impressive and would blow that supra's doors off.
