My theory is, if you see an old guy driving a fast car, stay away. It more then likely is fast, and he has the money to put into it more then I do.

to the OP how bad did you get beat by? A stock automatic car can really see a change with a stall.

    Full bolt ons...
    Lid
    Full exhaust
    LS6 intake
    P/P the tb
    gears
    stall
    SFC's

Modding aint cheap, but our cars respond crazily to just bolt ons, and its a whole other world when u break into the engine. Keep in mind, the stall is gonna eat up a lot of power, but dont feel bad cuz it more than makes up for it performancde wise. Then after all that, you will be ready for a h/c swap. Then after that you will need a new rear end......the list goes on and on

Just enjoy your car as is. Don't build it to outrun the occasional guy you might run into. If you want to modify it, do it for the right reason: because you enjoy modifying cars. If you modify it because of someone else or to prove something to somebody, then you will never stop. You will spend more money than you intend to. You will not enjoy it as much when you are over your head. You can't be the fastest, so just do it to have fun or enjoy your car the way it already is.

Chris has a valid point. I tend to set a goal for the car to run, and leave it at that. If something else is faster than so be it.

Besides,,,these cars can and will run 13's in stock form.....on the street thats generally enough to clean up most of the time honestly.

You rarely come accross anything that dips into the 12's although I admit it is more common nowadays than it was 10-15 years ago. But even more rare yet is to come accross a legit 11 second car on the street. Cars like that generally aren't driven daily and rarely come out anyway. Chances of running into one is slim.

I've also ran into cars that looked like they would run the number and then couldn't get out of their own way.

Those are some of the funniest encounters I've ever had.

I wouldn't worry about it to be honest.

The most common cars I run into that can give me a good run are fellow F-bodies, 'Vettes, Goats, SRT8s, Machs, Cobras, etc. Generally these guys toss up a thumbs up whether you win or lose and can appreciate a cool car. There are those who don't though. I for one get excited to see one of those cars running around.
