Yeah, there are some quick imports. I went to the local strip a few months back and happened upon a Neon club thrashing their rides. Most didn't break 14s but there were a few running 13s and a couple in the twelves. They have import night every now and then. Most are running 15s. Contrary to popular ricer doctrine, stickers, a park bench wing and carbon fiber whatever don't make it any faster. As for Evo's and STI's, what sedan does GM, ford, or Chrysler build that can compare with the economy and performance of SUB or the Mitsu? With the exception of the GTO and mustang, american car makers have NOTHING! And even then, try to haul a couple of kids in a stang or a goat. Until the US automakers get off their dependance on SUV's, the american GT is dead. On another note, one of my most favorite saying is: "Racing a Honda is like being in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, your still retarded".

Thats what Ive been saying. There is no competition in the sedan high performance market by domestics. I dont put the GTO or GT in there because they are 2 door and they cant touch the handling/braking of the Mitsu/Sub either.

Don't count out the 300C, Magnum and Charger SRT-8s . Those are pretty fast domestic sedans/ wagons. Still wont keep up in the twisties though.

Yeah they dont touch the STi/EVO in handling/braking, they do have 4 doors and have very quick straight line acceleration. But also, they are $40-50k, so its still not considered competition. Two very different buyers would go for each.

Although the domestic market doesn't have a great 4 door supercar like the STI's and Evo's chevy is trying with the Cobalt SS... I think that car is pretty cool for just a 4 banger with a supercharger... And the SRT-4's are badass 2... soo the domestic market is trying as i see it.. Don't know how much the Cobalt SS runs for but the SRT-4 is a pretty bad ass bang for your buck car! if you all know what i mean...

Thats actually a good point, I forgot about those two little suckers lol. They are definite a huge value for straight-line performance at 21-23k.

The SRT-4 is a good value, but if you ask me the Cobalt is a rip... The heavy 18s don't help it too much. C&D got, a high 14s or low 15s 1/4 mile time for it... I do believe with some lighter wheels and a few upgrades, the car can be fast, but in stock trim, it just doesn't cut it.

The NEON SRT-4 IS a good value...for straight line speed. In the end, however, it is still a neon. The cobalt SS S/C is nice. Not the fastest stock (and there are a few other things i don't like about it), but from what i have heard, they can be easily modded to be fast, or faster.

I don't see why people always say it is just a Neon? The Neon was a very good selling car, in its level. If you are gunna argue it that way, then the Cobalt is just an updated Cavalier, my STi is nothing but a 2.5RS, an Evo is nothing but a Lancer, and a Trans Am is nothing but a Firebird... Each car is nothing but a more than a nicer version of the base model.

The SRT-4 is the best bang for the buck in the market today. With little modifications they can be fast. The only problem is little ignorant dumbasses own them most the time and think that they are king of the streets. It's not the car I don't like, I love the SRT-4, Dodge nailed it with that one. It is the drivers that I can't stand nearly all of the time.

But that's not what we are looking at. The neon SRT-4 is made out to be an amazing car and in a straight line, it is. However, look past the speed and what do you have, a neon. It isn't comfortable, nothing spectacular on the inside, etc. It's not that im saying, "Look at what it's base model is." Im saying, the neon SRT-4 has nothing to it but the engine.

It actually has more than that. The suspension and some interior components are different. The whole tuning of the car a limited slip differential are also added to the mix.

The SRT-4 is a Neon, but there is much more too it than a normal Neon. Just as there is more to my STi than a normal 2.5RS or an Evo compared to a Lancer...

They're not even meant to though. More performance options from the factory, means a much higher price at the dealership...

Also, if I personally wanted to tear it up in the twisties against the STI/EVO crowd, I'd borrow my friends 930 (rear wheel drive Porsche), and rape everybody!

I know they dont, but thats the point, I was getting back to was that there is no domestic competition for the STi/EVO. I do not count the Colbalt or SRT4 for that reason.

I own a 1987 930 Turbo. I hope the one you borrow is modded because if it's not...

I was heavy into the import crowd for several years. My first car was a 1976 T/A with a 455 H.O. 4spd, and some mods. I wanted to do something different. The biggest problem that I had with that shole scene was that there were infact too many wannabe's. I think if we are all honest, there are a lot of wannabe's in the domestic crowd too though. I had a 1997 Civic that was 100% street legal and ran 10.86 on slicks. IT cost me A LOT of money to make that happen, but it is not that hard. On the freeway it was a monster. It was much faster then my GTO.

    Excluding the rain, that is....

How can you say that? The 930's (at the time) handled better than the 911's. The 911's (at the time) had the tendency of breaking loose in the twisties (at very high speeds) due to it's rear engine configuration.

I'm a Porsche enthusiast myself, and I'd like to see you're 87' 930. Any pics?

    -Lethal

Edit: I hope you didn't mean the 944 (and got the two confused), which is a little more accessible.... as then I'd have to agree with you.
