    CTS-V vs. my 01 z28

I've been a fan of the CTS-V since release. I believe for an unltimate, family/business car, CTS-V is the only way to roll.
I've never been able to see how a CTS-V performs, but I know they are fast due to LS6/6speed power. The only factor I could see
that would make a CTS-V slow is all the added weight of being a 4 door luxary car.

Well on this past saturday I had a chance to race one.

I'm cruising down a 4 lane highway with my gf, when a CTS-V flys up along my side. Driving this freshly bought CTS-V was an older
man and his wife, both just laughing there ass off for whatever reason. Well the older guy looks over smiles and nods at my 2001 z28.
Both of us wanted to race but couldnt, blocked in both lanes by other traffic. Finally the car in front of him turns right opening
his lane up. Where as I have about 50ft infront of me from other traffic. The second his lane opened he downshifted to 2nd,(around 55mph)
just as I did. We both launched hard, I pulled his car for about 4ft then had to brake so I didnt rearend someone. He flies by in his open
lane as the road merged into a 2 lane highway. So a few miles go by, we both finally meet back up. This time the CTS-V is the first car in a left
turn lane, so I pulled in second waiting for the green arrow. Arrow turns green, we both make a our left hand turn. Right when his
car straightened he punched first (around 30mph) and chirped second and flew into third around 90mph. While the whole time I kept realing him in and
letting off the gas to avoid hitting his car, then realing him in, and letting off the gas.

Finally he turns right, and I go straight, and the dude waved. So it was cool.
What I did learn, is if you have an 01 or 02 z28 or TA you should beable to pull a CTS-V. If your not modded it will be close!
Also if you want a 4 door performer, definitely go CTS-V, screw BMW, mercedes or the hemi charger and 300M. The CTS-V would definitely walk most of them!

I wonder what times they are capable of as well. Their 3.73 gears may take away a little of the weight disadvantage. Also, I wonder if they have the standard wide ratio T56, or the Z06 close ratio. Maybe they have one unique to that vehicle. Last wednesday I watched one on a dyno at the local car show, looked pretty good in black.

You would think they would be faster than this. Must weigh more than I thought, but your assessment seems dead on now.

Have you seen the SRT-8 300 yet?? 6.1L hemi making 425 h/p. I've ridden in one of them and it would definatly give the caddy a run for its money. That hemi revs like nobodys business. Ive herd that the SRT-8 Grand Cherokee is supposed to do mid low 13's which means that the 300 is definatly faster. The normal 300 C with the 5.7 hemi has went 13.90's or so.

Check out the article in GM High Tech performance can't recall which month's issue but they did the suspension & chassis with BMR Parts The car really HOOKED! The car had serious wheel hop problems prior to the addition of the BMR upgrade Idon't know anybody who bought a CTS-V to drag race. Haven't seen any at my local drag strip

I read the 6.1 300's quarter-mile time was in the high 13-second range.

Saw a 300 SRT8 @ our weekly Friday night Car show-They are F@#$!# Hot! BUT Extremely Heavy cars. Some aftermarket carbon Fiber body panels and hood would be eqivalent to putting it on the Slim Fast Diet. Also Good Luck if you want to buy one, The girl who bought this car said the dealership was taking "BIDS" from buyers. As usual dealers taking advantage of car enthusists instead of just producing more cars for us!

You must have been reading the times for the 5.7 300 C. They have been 13.90s. The srt 8 has 425h/p and the 300 c witht he 5.7 only has 345 so the 6.1 is alot faster than high 13's. I have ridden in/driven both and they are totally different cars.

Maybe your right but according to this:

"Chrysler is claiming some mighty impressive numbers for the 300C SRT-8, namely 0-60 in the low 5s and a quarter-mile time in the high-13-second range. Judging by our seat-o-the-pants impressions, those estimates seem spot-on."

i own a charger r/t and the best so far that i seen for the 350hp 390tq version has been 14.0 @ 102. EVen motor trend got a 14.2 @ 102 out of it.The srt 8 will be near 13 flat. My charger was a 4160 weight..my a4 gto was 4000 and my charger would beat it.

CTS-V's are very cool for a larger performance car. They remind me of the full sized muscle cars from back in the day

    00 Z28 sold :-(

gotta love the ls6. I wonder if even half the owners even know what they actually have under the hood. I've seen a few on the freeway, both were owned by a older couple. It's definatly a fast luxury car.

I just came out of a 360 awhp lancer evo, to an 05 cts-v. The car does have some serious power and tq from the factory. It wheel hops like crazy though. And as far as the 300c's go, try having one of them follow a V through some twisties.

the 300c is no comparison to the CTS-V..... there is a service bulletin to fix the wheel hop problem.... go to the your caddy service department and they will fix it under warranty.

Yea it is. The srt-8 300 that is. Not the normal 300C. Thats what the srt was built for, to compete with your car. The charger srt-8 just went 13.30 at 108 in road and track and their drivers suck because they couldn't get a 06 viper into the 11's.They only got like 12.20's our of the viper and the new Z06. I believe car and driver got one to go 11.87 or somewhere around there. The srt cars are extremely badd ass. The 400h/p gto was in the same artical as the charger and it went 13.70 at 103 it was the 6 speed. The charger is ugly though. Im not bashin on ls6 2 or 1 cars they also are badd ass and I would have a camaro or trans am over the new ugly charger but not the 300.
