but besides that here is some info on those exhaust manifolds
"It has been common practice for enthusiasts to toss out the original cast-iron exhaust manifolds of their Mustangs, replacing them with custom-built high-flow tubular headers to improve the engine's breathing and boost horsepower. Well, owners of the 2011 Mustang GT won't have to take that hot rodding step - the new 5.0 engine comes from the factory with specially designed tubular headers. And this footnote will warm the hearts of enthusiasts: Ford says those headers were initially fabricated by an engine team analyst in their home workshop."

so headers will not provide that much of a boost.

cams yeah will add. but it will take time for the tuners to work with the Ti-VCT and 4 cams ...uke:

the heads are also very very good (i am jealous)

so is the 5.0 fast...of course ...but is it as boxed up from the factory as Gm's lsXs...not even close. All this hopla about the 5.0 will soon enough fade...just like the new camaro ..and be left with a fast factory car that will take large sums of money to make it go much fast .
Mustangs have had shorty tube style headers since the mid 80's. I think they went away when the mod motor came out.

I haven't actually seen exactly what the 2011 stangs will have. Are they shorties too?? Small tube diameter??
Building these new cars to satisfy the EPA leaves alot on the table to be improved upon. I'm betting there will be some nice large diameter long tubes in the aftermarket for these cars.

    i dont know that..

dont think i think the new mustang sucks because it is a mustang...i am a car guy..and i love where the mustang is going now...but i think i just dont have a lot of faith in newer cars when it comes to true potential and such...new cars are expensive to mod and own it seems...4th gens being no different.......get me a 427 69 z28 and i am sure with the money i have sunk into the t/a ...i would have a nasty 427

I am of the same thought process and actually practice it too. I agree, even the 4th gens are expensive to mod. The LS motors just haven't been around long enough to drive prices down. Unlike the Gen 1 small block that's been here since 55, it has a huge advantage in the aftermarket both price wise and interchangability,,,which keeps things affordable.

I spend most of my money on our classic cars. I do a little bit with our 4th gens, but like you said, it's expensive to do. I can buy a couple of speed parts for a classic car compared to what 1 speed part costs on a 4th gen.

Playing with these old cars with their ease of interchangability and cheaper speed parts makes it very hard to justify doing anything to our 4th gens.

M6 SS Camaros do not have DOD - only the A6 does.

    Firebirdjones.....here's a pic of the 2011 5.0 tubular exhaust....

Definately nice for a factory piece. This is what most of the internet know-it-alls are using for the basis of their assumption that the 5.0 is maxed out or pretty much maxed out or whatever (though I'm sure someone will quote other things....which will provide some more fun).

    Time will tell.

We know the m6 doesnt have DOD thanks to the ls3 and GM cant make it work with a stick car. That little side conversation started from a quote that says the autos have DOD.

That exhaust manifold is nice but def leaves room for improvements.

simmer down the 5.0 isnt maxed out...i think what most people are saying is that 1. it will not respond as well mod for mod of the lsxs..and that the cost of modding the 5.0 will be astronomical ........

Simmer down? OMG - do I have to? Is my blood pressure too high?

FWIW...."bolt-on" mods will be similarly priced to everything else. What will cost more is cams (obviously) and head work (again, obviously). Everything else....well....its pretty much just like any other motor. So ya, on a complete engine build, you'll probably spend an extra grand on this motor over an LSx. On a heads/cam buildup, you'll probably spend an extra grand over an LSx. And unless you want to rev it to the moon and beyond, in N/A street trim, it likely won't make the same power as a modest-cubed LSx.

So let me restate, if I may be so bold, and if my blood pressure will allow.....

but remember from factory the 5.0 is much more all out than the conservative lsXs
This is pure uninformed, ignorant conjecture from an internet know-it-all that thinks he/she/it.....well....knows.

How's that? Did I quote you correctly this time? Is my statement more accurate now? Do I need to simmer down more?

What time is it? Need to burn off some of this nervous energy....

You do need to simmer down. The only point he was trying to get across was that it wont respond aswell to mods as a bigger cube lsx engine.

Wow. I suppose I better call my shrink. Oh the humility!

But nah....his point has been modified in an attempt to cover the baselessness of his original arguement. Tis ok though - where would the entertainment.....errr....I mean....how would I get all worked up if he did otherwise?

    2002 C5 - M6 - Blue
    2000 Z28 - A4 - Pewter

Whatever. I can't (and don't want to) afford either one. But it's definately nice to be able to keep up on the what the competition is putting out! I know more about mustangs than some of my circle of friends do (that actually own them). If I had a little more cash in my pocket, I'd have a 94/95 GT in the driveway that would have more money under the hood, and faster times down the track than my car.

I have no shame, they sound good, look good, and I've always wanted to toy with one. I'm a car enthusiast either way, but my brand loyalty prefers to keep the GMs as the primary vehicle, would just like to have a 5.0L one day... can't wait to hear more about this mustang

This thread is getting pretty entertaining as well

are you kidding me??? for cams swap only 1k more ?? 4 cams plus the tons of time needed to tune ? on top of that...the Ti-VCT and trying to tune with that......

i laugh how you talk about us internet know it alls...........but yet you then try to "disprove" me through the internet with no more factual information than me..... talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

where are your facts ?? you have yet to prove anything ..but giving us your opinion on how expensive...so yea...but if you think that tuning and swapping valvetrain in a 4 cam car with Ti-VCT will be 1k more ok good for you...oh wait so if engine work and tuning will be more expensive than a lsx engine...doesn't that mean it will be more expensive to mod ????? isnt that what i said ?

ohhh wait do you know that the 5.0 will respond just as well to mods as the LSXs ?? Or are you just making baseless statements ??

So....where's the astronomical part? And ya....about a grand more. Been there, done that. Wanna see?

You ever priced a set of cams for a 4V? Have you ever changed them? Had the top of the motor apart? Ever done that in ANY car?

Here....see if you can figure out what this one refers to....

ohh so how much did a tune cost ?

so you work on a 4.6 so now you are an expert on the new 5.0 ?
if you want to do that fine..if the 5.0 is soo much like the 4.6...then the 5.0 will not respond as well to mods as the lsx will with their bigger displacement.

so yet again..you show a picture of you with a 4.6 ...what does that have to do with the 5.0

on a side note...which one were you ?? i assume the far left ?

so i was doing some research on the 5.0's heads...those look nasty ..i also like how they allow for very generous porting ..that is cool.

i am still weary of the Ti-VCT tho..
