    BMW 335i?

    Hey all,
My buddy just got a brand new BMW 335i - twin-turbo stock engine with 300 ponies/300 torque and a 6-speed auto transmission...I've toyed with his car a bit in my '02 SS vert but nothing more than a few seconds - can i beat him or should I avoid the race for now???

My mods - SLP Lid, Free Ram Air, Ported MAF, Loudmouth Exhaust

    You'll walk him in 3rd - 4th gear.

Theyre nothing too special stock, theyll give you a run but you should pull it for sure. When they get some mods watch out though!

They are quick down low, but once you get into 3rd gear you should start to get a nice run on him. By 110, you should have him by a few lengths.

I'd rather have the 335 than the M3 for the simple fact it already has turbos.

Its that whole modability, price thing...

I have heard they put over 330 to the wheels with just a computer reflash

    A little light reading...

    3-SERIES COUPE
    Vehicle type: front-engine, rear- or 4-wheel-drive, 4-passenger, 2-door coupe
    Base price: $35,995-$41,295
    Engines: DOHC 24-valve 3.0-liter inline-6, 230 hp, 200 lb-ft; twin-turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 24-valve 3.0-liter inline-6, 300 hp, 300 lb-ft

Transmissions: 6-speed automatic with manumatic shifting, 6-speed manual
    Wheelbase: 108.7 in
    Length/width/height: 180.3/70.2/54.1-54.2 in
    Curb weight: 3400-3600 lb
    C/D test results (335i):
Zero to 60 mph: 4.9 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 12.1 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 5.6 sec
    Standing -mile: 13.6 sec @ 105 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 144 mph
    Braking, 70-0 mph: 160 ft
    Projected fuel economy (C/D est):
    EPA city driving: 20-21 mpg
    EPA highway driving: 29-30 mpg

    2004 LS-1 GTO, 2007 335I

    I own both a 335I and a LS-1 GTO.

About the same speed stock. BUT....the GTO shifts to 4th at 90 mph or so. The 335I shifts at 104 mph. IMHO the shift from third to forth is a dead spot in LS-1 Cars so be careful up high. To 60 the 335I is quicker hands down.

Be careful alot of 335I drivers are getting the Procede tuner by Vishnu. $1300 dollars and dynos 335 hp and 375 tq. 15 minute install.

Stock a 335I dynos 285hp and 285tq so they are under rated from the factory.

Recent Atco 1/4 mile time slips show Mid 12's at 108 to 109 with the Procede Mod. On 93 octane.

MY stock goat had a best of 13.4X @ 104.X at Island Dragway. The 335i definetly feels faster. After break-in I'll take the 335I to the Island dragway to see what I can do. Hopefully before the Procede arrives.

I was playing with a WS6 Trans the other day up high on the highway and was on him like glue and had to brake. I say Drivers race. Advantage Trans up high past 100. At a light make sure you have room because a 335I is a sub 5 second car stock to 60 mph. They are also easy as Pie to launch!

Basically think of a LS-1 GTO minus 200 pounds. With mod potential for 50 HP
and 90 lbs/tq to the wheels in 15 minutes.

Mag times for the quarter are done with shifts to redline. Shortshift 500 to 800 rpm lower and you can squeek out a 13.3 at say 105. Due to boost fade up high in the 335I.

Well the 335I is by far the better auto. Hands down. But it had a MSRP of 43,000 and I got it for 41,500. The GTO had a MSRP of 32,500 and I got it for 27,000. So big price difference. Acceleration they are about the same with easy torque down low. 335i is just a better car. Its like comparing a GTO to a 13,000 turbo econobox. The price difference is a big factor in overall ride and quality. The qualiy of the GTO interiors is nice but you are a fool to say itis as nice as a BMW or Mercedes.

The biggest difference is the brakes. GTO has no brake feel. The 335I brakes are amazing.

I like the 335I better. Its a sedan and probably the best one in the world for under 45k.

No regrets with the GTO. Sounds great, takes a beating. 44K miles and never once had a problem. A great gar. Definetly would consider another GM product in the future. A little heavy. Never truely felt comfortable in the twisties. Did I metion the brakes suck. Great car though.

I was Basically lookin for a car that had the practicallity and power of my GTO and the handling and finesse of my s2000. With 4 doors.

Damn it! I should have gotten a 335 for my daily driver. Oh well, child support and mortgage payment come first!

I have drooled over a couple in parking lots now. REAL nice for under 45K!

The new 335I is nothing to laugh at. There is only one car that I know of with that same configuration (twin turbos on an inline 6) and that's the Supra, if there are others, please someone chime in.

I've heard little modding wakes up the 335I and looking to see what the stock block will be capable of, will be very interesting.

The 335 motor just won world engine of the year. Also their V10 500hp won two years running as well. Dam German's know how to build a good motor.

A Procede equipped 335i will walk a basic bolt on ls-1 ss

I Just got Procede and the car pulls real hard. A 335I at Atco with drag radials and Procede version 1.45 pulled a 12.5X a few weeks ago. One of these fridays I will head down to Island dragway.

Version 2.0 is scheduled for beta next week. Then anyone with a Procede will be able to download it for free. The dyno numbers are 385 whp and 416 wtq for version 2.0. Add an exhaust and your over 400 whp in a four door grocery getter

I don't know much about the GTO's and I realize that there is some weight difference also, but I love the Baer brakes of my WS-6. They really haul it down in a hurry and have saved my butt a couple of times.

I ran a 12.7 @107 1.8 60ft and all I have is long tubes and a converter. I think I spent about $900 on those parts and put them in myself. If I had another $400 to make it $1300 I could by a LS6 intake and I just ported my TB myself. I know I would be running the 1/4 at about 12.3-12.5 @ 109-110ish, but that’s a guess. I will let you know soon. So what I'm trying to say is if you throw $1300 at the LS1 also its going to run about the same times as the 335I its looks like. That’s just my opinion though and opinion are like a$$ holes everyone has one.
