I have an update for my '87 Turbo Limited Regal (1 of 1035):

May 08: as I was finishing the install of a PTC 9.5 NL converter I noticed a blown head gasket. Thought about it for a while and decided to pull the numbers matching engine and store it. Replaced with same 3.8l block except girdled with forged crank, forged rods, and forged pistons...no longer worried about the stock bottom end scattering itself at the 1000' mark.

While we were at it we stroked it .25" (now a 249 cu in...was 231) and added a mild roller cam with 1.60 ratio roller rockers (stock was 1.55). Reinstalled same heads, intake, injectors, turbo, etc.

Just started it for the first time over Christmas...it fired right up!! Need to fab an intake plenum spacer to raise it a bit for clearance and button it up.

Should be scaring the neighbors soon

    Bob

So is that it? There has to be someone faster than my "non-LS1 car". In fact I know there is. I know a couple of you GN guys are down in the low 10s. Where are you guys hiding, let's see your times.

i guarantee there are people on here running faster than a 10.71....no doubt....its just that on threads like these the bullshit flies...so most guys running faster times may not even bother

I'm not the fastest, but on street tires my Camaro runs 11.4 at 127mph all day with a mild 350 and nitrous. Looks stock under the hood except for headers.

I don't have any times yet, but if I can't do better than a 10.71, I'm going to burn my car to the ground. lol

11.96 was the fastest time for my H/C/I 302 setup on the mustang, and 12.21 after I twin-turboed it. That's not really indicative of the power because I was focused on beating porsches in open-track events with the PCA. The turbo could trap in the 120s, but on the 12.21 pass 117.9 is all it went - probably due to heat soak and conditions.

Now the car has a drag-oriented suspension beneath and a much much meaner combo underhood.

Yeah, I ran the 10.71@136.81 on 22psi tune with drag radials. I'm going back to the track probably in March with a 30psi tune and alchy injection. I'm also going to be running slicks on the car for the first time on this turbo setup. The car is either going to run well into the 9s or break something. Not bad for a 4 cylinder true street car. The car doesn't even have a roll cage or parachute pack. The chassis is unmodified. Depending on how good I do I'll probably get one run in before I get kicked out. I'm hoping I break something so I can find an excuse to get busy on my LS1 240.

    Good luck with your project.

That's a good trap for that power level, considering the cars weight and all. What type of tire were you running?

Nice. I'm kind of doing the same thing to my T only on a smaller scale. I had a blown head gasket and decided just to pull the motor. I wound up getting Champion P&P stock irons, matched P&P intake and a 206/206 roller. The motor is done I just need to find the time to put it back in the car. Good luck

Wow, talk about an old post. This goes back a ways.

I think it would be even more interesting to split it up between naturally aspirated and power adders.

Seems most here are going the power adder route and there are very few fast naturally aspirated setups.
