    ACK! Sandbagging STI/WRX

So I was on the highway coming home from the track when I see a wrx or a sti it was hard to tell it had no badges or wing just a carbon trunk and hood. I dropped down to 60-65 then he started beeping, I beat him pretty easy the 1st time by 2-3 cars maybe. The second run at the same speed, he was right at my door and was slowly creeping away until we shut down at 125. Sad thing was he had 4 people in the car! Not sure if he had a boost controller, nitrous or what?

That sounds like nitrous for what you say your car runs, def not a stock car by any means with 4 people in the car.

Im not sure That I have ever seen Nitrous on a WRX, If Nitrous is installed on a turbo car it usually is used to help build boost off the line to keep it from bogging then turned off once the turbo is spooled, Even if he had Nitrous on the car I Doubt he was spraying it at 65mph, Im sure he prob just caught it in a better power band the last time. And It was Prob a big turbo installed.

This happened in NH, I live in Putnum, CT. Now that I see a couple other wrx's on the road I think it might of been a EVO, it had a reflector or blinker on the front fender. Im sure from a dig I would of got the jump on him were weight makes more of a difference.

Thats true, I was doing some research on the evo's, they definitly run strong with minimal mods.

If he launches the hell out of it. If not, its a disadvantage, because you can't get any controlled wheel spin, just hook up and it bogs down. Not everyone likes frying their clutches to get off the line quickly, and Evo/STI clutches are expensive and a miserable job to do.

I leave the line at 6500rpm and you can't smell one bit of clutch. As previously mentioned stick to things you have first hand knowledge of. Thanks in advance.

Are you doing that on a stock clutch?

When I had my EVO I usually launched at around 5500rpm with the stock clutch, and around 6000 with my aftermarket one. Stock clutch lasted me 52k miles too. If you know how to properly launch an AWD car, its easy as pie and the clutch should last a long time. If you are a newb and are beating a moron, you can kill it in days.

As mentioned above I used to launch the stocker at 5-6k. Lasted to 37k. That's with like 100 launches on it.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but your post doesn't add up.

Your engine is turning 6500RPM. Your wheels are turning zero RPM. The car is AWD, so the tires won't break lose the same way a RWD or FWD car would.

Something has to absorb the difference between the engine turning 6500RPM and the wheels turning 0 RPM. Guess what, its your clutch. Every time you do that you are frying and severely wearing the clutch. Its common sense, there is no way around it, nothing else in the drivetrain is going to absorb that kind of RPM difference.

Its like saying going 150MPH to zero in a full out stop doesn't fry the brake pads. You'd be stupid to argue that.

Depends on what the setup is. My A4 car will hold it's own on the highway at any speed, and has so against many MN6 cars. Besides, nothing is as weak on the highway as an Evo or STI. If it wasn't for AWD......

Ok. The only reason I ask is because I'm considering an EVO as my DD and was curious if the stock clutch would take it.
