Sounds like a drivers race to me,the M5 has about the same 1/4 time but like u said it is heavy. Should be a good race!!

weight is pretty equal...if you have him in anything...it's torque...so use it to your advantage...
good luck

I can't tell you who is going to win this race but I can give you some estimates on power + weight on the M5.
Depending on which intake and exhaust he has he's probably making between 418-430HP at the flywheel. Its tough to say really as the BMW V8s are usually underrated.
Expect his car to weigh in somewhere around high 3600-low 3700s. When you do exhaust on this car you do away with the resonators and massive mufflers. Both weigh about as much as an elephant. You also do away with the twin factory air boxes so you shed almost another 10lbs there.
With a good driver in an E/I M5 expect the car to trap around 113-115mph with a good driver. Maybe 116 with an excellent driver. With a tune to bring it all together it would probably trap around 117+.
Hope this helps let you know what you can expect from his car.
p.s. if he can't drive, this won't even be a race for you.

Back when I had my E46 M3 (2003.5) There was alot of talk about who was faster; M3 vs M5. The consensus was that from a standstill it was a driver's race, but above 100, the M5 would slowly pull a length. And the quarter mile trap speeds for both the M3 and M5 stock is nowhere near 110, more like 100-105. For an older M5 to post 115 mph trap speeds, that would equal approx 100hp over their rated amounts, from just an I/E?. I would have to see that to believe it. Now the newer 500hp M5 should trap 115 on a bad day. My bet would be for the Ls1 at speeds north of 100

Given equal drivers this is not even really a comparison. M5 hands down.
A chipped 335I is more a match for an M5 and a chipped 335I walks a stock E46 M3 pretty handily.

A great driven E39 540I 6-speed will trap 103-105mph. Here is my 6-speed 540I trapping 103mph and this was with the 2.81 open differential rear end, not the M-sport 540I 3.15 limited slip diff. On this night my car weighed in at 3788lbs. Runs were made at approximately 770-800 ft. above sea level and on a very hot and muggy night. My clutch fan and rad fans were on on every single pass and coolant temps were 230*F. Oh and I was also down a little on power due to a bad MAF.
Here is the vid:
My 97 540I 6-spd at. The track was very slick so I couldn't get out of the hole without spinning, so I launched it real soft. On this night, the car weighed in at 3788lbs.
On the 103mph run, I gained almost 24mph on the back 1/8th. On the run against the LS2 GTO 6-speed, I gained 23.6mph on the back 1/8th to his 21.54
On a cool night with the passenger headlight pulled to feed the filter, I have no doubt this car has 104+mph in it just as it sits.
The 540I was rated for 282HP at the flywheel. The M5 was rated for 400HP at the flywheel.
Here is a dyno sheet for my 540I. It was dyno'd on a load applying Dyno Dynamics which reads lower than a Mustang dyno. The dyno itself has been nicknamed "The heart breaker".
That very same day a 06 LS2 GTO 6-speed dyno'd 271RWHP to my 266RWHP.
Not bad for a car that was rated at 282HP @ the flywheel. You can expect that the M5 V8 is also underrated.
My bet would be for the Ls1 at speeds north of 100

I don't doubt your car made those type of gains given the fact that typical "normal" bmws are tuned more towards comfort and grand touring instead of all out speed. Pull some data of similar modications on the M5 and the gains expected. Typically the "M" cars are nearly maxed out with their engine's performance; intake/headers/exhaust usually give negligible gains which are certainly not cost effective. I know about the performance of chipped 335i, but I have seen several video years ago of M3s and M5s going at it and it was not an impressive victory for the winner. A properly running LS1 will punish a M3 above 100.
Enough of the mental masturbation, when is this race going to happen?
