    5.7 Gto??

    friend of mine wants me to race this shit talker at his work... he is a stock 5.7 GTO i think 6spd... i have a 2000 SS 6 spd lid, exhaust free mods oh and sub frame connectors... what you guys think

    You should definitely beat him.

    You have the advantages of a few hundred pounds less weight, a solid axle, and a suspension that is designed for dragstrip launches.

    With about 30-40 less hp and about 40 less of Torque, I personally would be surprised if you really end up beating him. Hope your a good driver and he's decent otherwise I think you'll be surprised.

    They are both LS1's. The only real difference should be that the GTO has a better flowing exhaust than the F-body. The Vette's LS1 was rated at 350HP as well, and as we all know they put down very close (with a few HP) of an F-body LS1.

    Granted your right but still I would predict with mods and the goat having a SMALL hp and tq on him it will be very close. Hell you never know until you finally race. Weight and power mean shit (within reason) untill you actually are done racing. Driver error, traction all are factors until your done.

    cool well we are going to a local werehousing place... my friend raced him with a all motor LS/Vtec and the guy beat him by 1 1/2 car lengths... doesn't seem like he can drive... i usually get about 3-4 cars on them guys... soo wish me luck... oh and also i am going to video it!

    haha the fbody suspension is not "designed for dragstrip launches." it does ok, but i wouldnt say the stock suspension was designed for that purpose. last i remember, fbody's corner pretty well.

    a dragstrip launch on one of the worst rearends ever put in? You do a couple 6k drops and your on borrowed time.

    Its a 3-link solid axle coil spring rear suspension...its designed for straight line acceleration. The GTO has IRS, which is more for handling than for launching.

    Wesman is tellin the truth... oh and update... guy at my office building just bought a used 5.7.. stock GTO... he has been telling everyone in out building even my dad that his car will woop my ass... he says by 3-5 car lengths... its totally STOCK... 6 spd..

    the stock springs are kinda stiff and lack in the weight transfer department for a car "designed for dragstrip launches". it does ok, pretty well, but im sure GM didnt decide on the solid axle specifically for this purpose. a solid axle is preffered, but it isnt the reason its back there and the stock suspesion was built for.

    If you can hook and row the gears then you will be fine. LS1 Goats are very nice cars, no doubt. But looks like these guys need some humbling.

    yup its been raining/snowing for the past week and shit... soo when it clears up pretty good and the guy says ok then we will do it!
