    02 ss camaro vs. 03 or 04 mach 1

Do I have a chance in a 1/4 mile race. I have a stock 02 ss with an a4 tranny. Mach 1 is a 5 speed and is stock.

You have more than a chance, just don't break traction and let him jump out on you. If you hook up it's over for him, OVER

Just don't take a nap at the light. The Mach 1 5 speed is much faster than the GT. I think it would be close, but you should take him.

I test drove a Mach 1 about a week and a half ago. I wouldn't say anything bad about them, but it didn't seem to me to be faster than my '00 Z28.

That's what I was thinking. Don't they both run about the same stock ET's? 13.5? I admit I don't know what an 00SS runs but isn't it about the same?

It really is a good race car for car, but every single race I've seen if the Z hooks up the mach doesn't even put up a good fight
I'm not talkin crap, I love Machs, they look SO much better than a Z in my opinion. Real story though, my friend had a 99 Z28 with lid and exhaust, raced a mach one, he pulled the dreaded 2-3-2 shifting and the mach STILL never passed him. He stuck it back in 4th and kept pulling. Even if the kid in the mach couldn't drive a stick worth a crap he should have caught him

I raced one from a slow roll and we were dead even the whole way. It was a sick race.

Your friend probably raced someone who could not drive. I see mach 1's pulling low 13's all day back home and have raced several at the track.

It's nearly a dead even race.

I've owned both an 03' Mach and an 02' Z.

The Mach was a hair quicker to 80 or so, and the Z was a hair faster up top.

I ran a 13.06 with sticky tires and a lid in the Z28, and I ran a 12.90 in the Mach 1 with DR's and an X-pipe. Both trapped over 105.

Drivers being equal, the Z usually has a better chance because the Mach is hard to launch on stock rubber with it's 3.38 1st gear and 3.55 rear.

If the Mach guy can drive, flip a coin.

Also keep in mind that some cars run better than others. I had a strong example of a Mach.

The best time I turned in my Mach was a 12.61 @ 107.77. That was only with the xpipe, DR's, programer and CAI.

The same night there was a guy there in a 5 speed Mach that was bone stock and couldn't trap over 101. He was hitting high 13's all night.

I've seen the same shit with LS1 cars too. I saw a guy in an M6 GTO who couldn't get out of the 14's, and he didn't appear to be a bad driver.

A stock Mach1 5 speed can run 13.1-13.3@105, it will be a tough race for an auto

4.11 Gears , Shift kit, Stall Converter, DR's = consistant launch. perhaps like the Cobra its stock suspension doesnt allow for inexperienced racers..

    OH, alot of bolt

I had a Mach, definitely a fast car - much faster than the GT. I raced a few Camaro's and Firebirds and it was always close.

To the one that said they run 13.5's... I am sorry but u have ur facts wrong. My buddie just had got his 04 Mach 1 5spd from dealer and ran 13.34 with a 2.25 60FT on street tires and on nitto dr's he ran a 12.96 with a 1.9 60FT.....anyhow as far as the race goes it should be really close... no more than a car on each other..if the other one doesnt know how it drive I am assuming

    OH, alot of bolt

The Mach has an excellent stock suspension/gearing for launching, it's the tires that come on it that kill it. It's the same POS Goodyear Gatorbacks that have been around since the mid 1980's. Powershift 2nd on the "skatorbacks", and it leaves rubber like a motherfucker, but it eats up time. I've raced guys with my Z28 and C5 who had stock or mild bolt-on Machs on stock rubber that cut 1.9x's, and ran 13.0-13.2's, so if you can drive, you can deal with it.

With sticky tires, it's the launch and the short 1st gear/high revs that make the Mach really hard to deal with.

With DR's I was cutting low 1.6x 60's on the stock suspension at full weight. I would bury Fbodies so bad in the hole, most of the time I would have 3 lengths on them before they even got going.

If you have a car cutting a 1.6 and trapping 105+, it's gonna take a pretty stout bolt-on Fbody to deal with that.

Like I said, I was running 12.60's with minor bolt-ons and DR's, and I beat a lot of cars that would have destroyed me from a roll. A good example was an M6 SS with longtubes/cut out on slicks that I ran at HRP one night. I beat him by a couple of lengths, but I could see him coming on pretty hard on the big end..
