shouldn't really be an issue. control your launch and you'll be fine. this is assuming both cars are stock, never been touched.

If he is stock you should have him just don't get to overzealous if it is from a dig. If it a roll make sure you have it in the right gear and don't miss shifts. Basically concentrate on your car and you should do fine. Also you might want to adapt this to your own liking, but I keep some hard candy in the console I find it helps keep me concentrating on things inside car. From Columbia huh? That makes you from my area. Wonder if we have bumped into each other before. That would be kinda funny.

I pulled 1 car from 55-115 on a 99-02 Cobra in my 5.0 GT. I was dead-locked with a 'vert Auto Z28 with a large driver and medium sized passenger after he jumped out on me by 1-2 cars. This should give you some idea/comparison.

My friends has a 99 cobra he has magnaflow exhaust and an intake, i have a lid, headers, exhaust and I pulled 5-6 cars on him he has been driving stick 2 years longer than me so hes not bad at it and he has owned 4 mustangs all stick so he knows the car. This race was from 25mph to 110mph.

IDK maybe his stang is messed up but it only has 24k miles on it he almost never drives it.

I spend most of my time South and West of Columbia. You would probably know my cars if you had seen them. A black Firehawk and a black WS-6 that is loud as hell.

All 99 Cobras were recalled by Ford due to inconsistent/low power. This recall is commonly referred to as "The Fix", and consisted of a different intake, catback, and computer reflash. Prior to being recalled, 99 Cobras dyno'd anywhere from 240-270 RWHP - very inconsistent. Post recall, most were in the 270-280 RWHP range - consistent with the 320 HP rating.

I never dyno'd my car prior to the recall . Post recall was 277 RWHP.

On the flipside, the only bone stock ET I have was prior to getting the recall word done - 13.7. I have no idea how much (if any) the car would have picked up, in bone stock trim, post-recall.

For the original poster: Stock for stock, any year LS1 F-body has an advantage over a 99/01 Cobra. On average, I would suggest about .4 - .6 in ET & 4-6 mph. Once the mods start, all bets are off, though generally speaking, it is still easier to go quick with the LS1

How does keeping candy inside the car help you concentrate inside the car?

I see so many thread on 99 cobras...and yet even with mods, theyre still horrible? I just dont get it.

I think he eats the candy, that keeps him focused, some people chew gum, I personalyy just turn up the stereo on a good song, that helps me concentrate.

And the 99 Cobra is not that fast even with the re flash and intake. They needed lower rear end gears from the factory, also they are only a 4.6 liter.
With a good exhaust and a tune, and the other basic bolt ons, a 99 or 01 will only be an even race with a stock 01/02 M6 LS1. But add gears and and some DRs and they will beat em.

There are 99/01 Cobras that have gone mid to high 11s with bolt-ons - internally stock, no power adder. They absolutely have to have gear, and benefit greatly from a live axle swap (direct bolt-in).

Actually the real fix came in the 2003 model, it was called a supercharger.

And yes I imagine a 99/01 Cobra with all the bolt ons (I mean all) could run an 11 sec qaurter mile, with a good driver.

    Nah....just the right ones:

    Live axle with gear
    Shorty headers
    X-pipe
    Catback
    CAI
    Pulleys
    Chip
    DRs
    Some weight reduction

When you get closer to all of them, that's when it goes Mid 11s.
