Blue- 2001 Z28 Convertible
New Top Time
Greetings All,
Newbie to the forums here. My 2001 Z28 is in need of a new top (camel). Any suggestions on make, etc. Are some brands better than others, some to stay away from? Also an idea of price to install the top?
TIA

Purple- 1998 T/A convertable
I don't even lock mine for that reason. But I have a stock system and don't leave anything in there. I am working on a weld in lock box to be able to store my piece when going into banks, casinos, ect.

When my tan top goes, I plan to go to a black top, wont be long, maybe a few years. I have been watching a few forums on top replacement and no one has been brave enough to do the work them selves. Must be a real PITA.

Blue- 2001 Z28 Convert
Thanks for all the replies
All,
Thanks for the replies, I am still looking, I do have a quote for the top replacement at $1400. Also does that usually include the headliner, and what about the cables? Chevy1966, that is the same color as my top and interior also. Interesting that it's considered rare, is that only for the red cars? Mine has the dark blue exterior...

Mine did not include the headliner or cables. They were both in excellent shape. I did not know they were considered rare either. I had a friend who owned a sebring silver ss, with ebony leather, and it had a white convertible top. They said it was really rare, but I personally did like the color combo.

Sorry to hear about all the misfortune. I have 2 convertable 4th gens and believe that has to be the only drawback,,,they are easy targets for thieves. I won't leave mine parked anywhere I cannot keep an eye on it. I have a beater for that.
On a brighter note,,,One of mine has a tan top,,,the other is a black top. I like the looks of both but I have to admit,,,that tan top really makes the car pop out. I don't see many tan top cars at all in any body color. It's what attracted me to this car years ago.

When he says material I am thinking of the actual fabric tearing apart around the window,,,,at least that is my guess,,,,because when my back window came loose it was actually the black window adhesive that creates the seal and holds the window still that was loose on mine,,,,so I simply glued it back in with the proper window weatherstripping adheasive. There was no need for a new top in my case,,,but in his case it sounds like top replacement was necessary.

You are correct in that assumption. Right after I purchased car it started tearing a little at a time. I figured I would just replace rear window, but because the top was already 8 years old the colors did not match. So I bit the bullit and rerplaced it all.
