I dont have a conv., so i'm not sure if its the same. But my speaker covers just come off. I dont have to remove the rear panel to get to them. Not sure if this helps you, but..... ttt, anyway.

first you have to remove top cover over panel. it has one phillips screw. next you have to fold down rear seat and remove the torx bolt that seat latches to.

I also loosen the door sill plate also a phillips. the panel tucks under it. becareful as the light will be attached. if you are thinking of deeper speakers you will need to get or mak spacers and trim with a razor on the backside of the plastic, i made my spacers out of 5/8" hose worked awesome. went with kenwood 3ways and it is much louder and clearer than factory.

    good luck

the only hick is I don't have torx tools
Oh well... I'll get a kit of them and increase my tool collection.
as for the rear speakers, I'm totally eliminating them... I have a full aftermarket one, with amp, focal spkrs, and subs (front stage).. just never removed the rear speakers... dead weight.
