    Convertible top straps

This is the last little thing that is left to get fixed on my car. I know there are a few other vert owners out there that have had the cloth straps snap on the top right behind the side windows. What that does is allows the top to flop in the wind when your window is down, which is obviously annoying. Just wondering what people have done to fix that, sew on a better peice or what?

Mine doesn't really flop that much it stays pretty tight. I'm not sure why yours would flop though, how fast do you have to drive before it starts flopping?

Is it the straps that hold the inner liner?

Have a pic of these so called straps?? I'm having a hard time picturing it. Nothing is broken on mine that I'm aware of, I've never noticed my top flopping around but the fabric isn't tight either

yes, it usually starts flapping around by the time i hit 25mph if I remember correctly. Don't have a pic at this time, however its the little straps right behind the side windows that strap the inner liner to a peice of metal framing in the mechanism. When the top is lowered or raised it slides up and down this metal peice and I think it wears and breaks.

I just looked at mine. It is actually a velcro strap that is sewn in. It just wraps the piece of metal. There is also a piece of fabric that is attached to the rear and is screwed to the rear well.

That is the only way to make it attach. I would go to an upholstery shop and have them do it. You might even be able to have a tailor sew a piece back in. What happened to the original did it rip off?

To help out Bouvers a bit in his description so maybe others can understand.

The part of the top that is flapping you are referring to if I am in the right area ,,,is called the sail panel.

I looked at mine and see the little strap you are referring to. Mine is snapped together. It was referred to as being a velcro attatchment.

Maybe in the earlier years Mine is an 02 and is attatched with a snap. It's not very tight fitting and made of stout material, I don't see any signs of wear on it.

My sail panel is rather loose even with the strap,,,but I never hear any noise from it with the windows down.

When you said the top was flopping around I thought you meant the top portion of it maybe ballooning or something.

Mine does the same thing. I had my wife sew a new piece of velcro on to it. works like a champ. Maybe GM realized the velcro comes off and they went to a snap to correct the problem.

one of my straps are cut due to open/close I think... I'm pretty sure that is just holding hte liner for proper positioning when putting the top down.

Is just the snap missing? You can replace them yourself.
