WANTED: F Body Daily Driver Wanted

I'm a newbie and I'm in the market for a daily driver that can be a project car.
I hoping the experienced "old heads" out there can set me straight.

    Here's the wish list:

Type: '98 to '02 Z28, SS or Trans Am
Body: prefer hardtop but will consider a t-top
    Transmission: 6 speed manual
    Engine: LS1
Interior: Leather and prefer anything but black
    Exterior: Prefer anything but black
Mods: The fewer the better, prefer stock.
Condition: At least average, prefer clean and probably can't afford exceptional; but in any condition, no fluid leaks or oil burners.
Mileage: If it's currently in use and not smoking or leaking, unimportant.

I've been looking here and on autotrader.com, but most F bodies I see are in better shape and cost more than I want to pay, which is somewhere north $4,000 and south of $7,000.

I'm a teacher and I tell my students that ignorance is not a problem as long as you're working on banishing it. I'm obviously ignorant so give me some advice and tell me whats-what, what to read and where to research.

    THANKS

    John Gill

Look around on craigslist.org . I disagree that it would be hard to find a good fbody for under 7k. These things get cheaper every day especially the camaros. Check ls1tech.com for sale section as well. There are lots for sale on there.

Most people won't sell their F-bodies for blue book value either. My car is worth $10k according to blue book, but I wouldn't consider selling it for less than $12k.

Actually most people are selling their fbodies for under blue book because the economy sucks and nobody is buying. They might first ask more than bb, but that quickly changes when they want to actually sell it. You just have to look around. It's quite sad really .
